MAACO Question...

hey guys i am about to get my car painted. and i am currently a college student so i'm aiming for the least expensive service i can get away with. Maaco is offering me a complete packge called the "value pack"... its gonna run me just about 300 if i do all the prep work on my own. can you please post a pic. of a car that was painted *value pack at maaco. i wanna see if the results are decent until i get some money for a "real" painjob. thanks in advance for you input.

Like anything quality will vary from shop to shop. Your best bet would be to ask them to see some cars they have done.

I looked into this for another car of mine (not the Iroc).

As eighty8TA pointed out, it's shop to shop. There's no reason that Macco can't be flawless, and just as good as anybody else, it's just that they don't GUARANTEE it's just as good. It depends who shoots your car.

I'd go look at the lot, and see what they've painted.

You also have to be honest with yourself. Is the car going to be parked out side in the elements all year round? Are you going to keep the car? How careful are the other people you park next to? Etc. I had mine done by them and I am happy. But I do not have a garage, and people open doors into cars so I figured if I had to subject my car to the jungle might as well not have an expensive paint job ruined. The paint guy where I went to was there for 8 yrs so try to find a place like that and as for the work you do preping it the better it will come. (sanding removing trim etc) And after its done keepon top of the waxing. If you want to see my car its in readers rides

Ive seen alot of cars painted from Maaco, and they came out real nice! I know a guy in my area that worked for them, and he also said that depending on what you have done is what it will cost but as far as paint they do real nice....but as stated above it depends also on the shop!

I was going to take mine there,untill.....they said I had to leave it for 2 weeks and there not respossible for my car while it sits out side waiting to be painted so no Maaco for me

Either way good luck, and we want to see pics when its done

i'd research your local one. I've heard horror stories about their prep work.
My Grandfather had a truck painted by them, and they sprayed the windshield rather good

every year this time they run a half-off deal on the presidential i think it is. my place let me buy it then and actually have it painted whenever i want.

mines at maaco right now (was in accident), will take some pics when i get it back sometime this week.

my experience has been good. at $250 (half-off), i think its a heck of a deal. i do remove everything i can, lights, etc, and also have them spray the plastic louvers seperatly and it came out nice last time.

the only problem with the paint ive seen is that it can get scratched easily and if you dont wipe off bird doo doo right away it can make a kind of shadow mark.

Very nice! I think Id go with that type too, because I dont have any dents or rust or paint chips, just need reg. paint prep and spray it! I probably shouldnt waist the money seeings how dumb people are and dont respect a clean car.and it will get all full of dings and scratches anyway...as it is I think mine is pretty clean and could still use paint, and I hate to park in a parking lot if shopping etc.,so I usually get stuck driving a grand am

ive done all the body work on my car, from dents and minor surface rust, but "prep work" would consist of what? do i have to sand the whole car down to bar metal? i am painting my car very very soon...so every little step in "prep work" i need to know...can anyone tell me all the step or tasks. thanks in advance

4-5 years after paint

4 years after paint, a few mounths after a wax job

5 years after paint right after waxing with the 3 step mequires

I have had good results from mine, I had it painted in High School and I am in college now so I feel the pain of having to get a macco job. Ask them how much they will do a base clear job, if you do the value package it will be a single stage enamel which will have to be completly striped off if you ever decide to paint it correctly. That is what I am running into, however if you can find a good warm clean space to paint it I would look around and find someone to paint it for you, especially if you are doing all the prep work. I payed like 650 for my paint job on my car that was prep, removing a dent in my passenger door, and painting the car two tone with pen stripe. Also when you drop the car off make sure you have your tail lights out, and side markers because all they will do is tape it up and they will get paint on it. The thing to remember with macco is they will as little as they can, you have to specify everything you want done. Once I got the car home I blacked out the wheel wells because the white paint was only just dusted in there. I also took to doing alot of detail cleaning and painted all my black trip peices like the ring around the back glass and the brackets on the headlights etc.

Look at my cardomain site if you want more pics.
