i've seen those before, this is the first thirdgen one i've seen, but i've seen them in vette and viper styles. not something i would even attempt, but i wouldn't imagine it to be extremely hard.

Yeah, I don't think a 3rd gen should tow anything, but if it had to, that'd be it. That "thing" being towed alone would be too weird. Flynlow, where on earth did you find that?! Very cool find

I have actually though tabout getting someone to do this. I first saw a vette with one and then several other older hot rodes. I love the Idea. It is great when you travel, You don't have to worry about messing up your speaker box with luggage. Just put the luggage in the tow box. LOL

I've got a question. Is the gas tank in the "thing" being towed still workable? That would be perfect for long trips. Fill up both tanks before you leave and when one gets low flip the switch to the other one and you're good to go. I like it. I am not too sure I would tow it with my Z but maybe with my truck.

It is cool but I hate thinking there should be 2 cars not 1.5 cars! Its cool but I agree no towing with a third gen , but if you do do it with style!

some of us like to bring race tires with us to the track

actualy that would be a nice little touch to bring along to the OT days, toss a set of race tires and a tool box in there.

Interesting you post that. I have a 91 vert that was wrecked. and Im using that as a parts car to convert my 92Z to a vert. and we cut the front buf frame from the vert and got rid of it.

Well my buddy was like f*ck dude just make the back 1/2 of the vert a tow dolly for slicks etc... ROFLMAO....

Something like this would be SO EASY to make if you had the donar car. A more suted vesion would be one with a hatch that opens. like from a hardtop or T Top car. This way you have More storage space. but on the other hand a FLAT front would be lots of wind resistance/drag on the towed rig.

TPI383: just take a nose/hood and blend it in to meet the rear half..

also, you need to redo the "floor" inside... that hump really limits room.... delete the gas tank, and you can cut the hump out, mini tub the wheels, and have alot more space...

cool idea.... but im with others in not likeing towing with a 3rdgen.

that said, id probly tow my stuff with my 3rdgen if i had a trailer.... more out of need then want though.

I have seriously considered this, a vert is just so limited as far as trunk space and when you go anywhere on a long trip it sucks if you have the top down... don't want to get your stuff stolen. Also like people have said... drag tires... I would rig up a removable hitch for my car so when not towing just remove it.:lala:

HA! looks alot like the back end of my bro's Camaro. I think I like it. I had a customer at a Car show that had a Prowler with a trailer behind it that looked like a chopped off backend of a prowler. Kinda neat.

I guess that is one way to "rescue" a totaled fbody.

I am really getting tired of seeing things done to thirdgens that involve turning it into other things. If there were not so many thirdgens out there, I doubt these kind of things would occur too often.

Ever noticed how most of the oddities made out of thirdgens are done from Irocs?

I think that it's awsome, as long as the front was a wreak, and nothing was done to a nice F-Body. I think it would be cool to do, especially that i got a donor car from a car auction the smashed into a poll, and now is useless. The rear end is good, so i think it would be a cool project. BTW billsfirebird, what year are those cars ? Crazy thing is, i have an 83 red, that looks like that bird exactly, and my girlfriend has a 84 berlinetta, that looks like the camaro in the picture.....

The couch idea on a Trans Am is what I'm doing right now! Only on a second gen.
As soon as that's done, I will use a third gen Trans Am.
I also have a huge whaletail, which i will be using on the top of a bar that i will build outa oak.
I never thought of a trailer. I like it!!
Look at my website listed below, in my sig!

Later,

George

Actually it appears to be an 'oh-so-valuable' SC back half with IROC wheels.

Something like this is extremely common to see with car's at the Frog Follies here (car show for 50's and older vehicles). It's basically a very stylish u-haul trailer made from fiberglass to resemble whatever the owner drives. If you're going to haul your stuff, why not do it with a little style at least?

You guys act like like someone just chopped the -ss off a perfectly good car and made it into a trailer.

Anyone who's ever been to a junkyard know that rear is usually the only partnot smeared on an f-body. Around here, you could probably make that for under $300.. I'd make one if I traveled frequently.

I like it

red is mine, 84 Firebird 2.5L Iron Duke

black is my bro's, 84 SC w/ 350 TPI (transplanted from an IROC)

If I traveled alot too, I'd like to have one. Obviously a bird though.

I think its a cool idea.

if i can get one hauled to my driveway for under $300, i think i may do it.

this would solve my problem of hauling my stuff between houses.... i have a place in SC and a place in Texas, and well, i have to ship some stuff since i cant haul it in the 'vert.... and while id HATE to tow a regular trailer with it, this may work.

not to mention, i can take it to the strip this way... slicks, and all.... and then lock the trailer when im busy running (so noone screws with my stuff)

I think that is awesome. I dont think people should get bent out of shape, that car was prob rotting away in a junk yard somewhere.

I highly doubt the owner chopped up an ultra low mileage one for that. Its nice to see people keeping the f-body alive.

I thought about getting a hitch for my 'roc to pull a 4x6 trailer for my quad... but I could only find them for SC cars without ground effects

Car: 1984 Pontiac Firebird
Engine: 2.5L Iron Duke 4 cylinder
Transmission: 5 speed manual
When I bought my 1984 Firebird coupe, it had a trailer hitch on it. For what reason I don't know. Especially being a 4 cylinder. It can barely pull itself let alone a trailer.

I took it off and sold it.

That is the coolest thing I have ever seen!
I'd love to have the extra hauling capacity!
I could haul my kids around in one of those things!
