New Rims

I hope this is the right place to put this. As some of you might have read recently I had my rims and tires stolen off of my Z. Currently there are some rims from a 57 chevy that look like the Corvette rallye wheels. Well I was browsing Summit Racing's website and I think I found the new rims I want to put on there. I am getting ready to start cleaning my car up and repairing/removing rust spots. What do you think of these wheels? They come in 15x4-15x8. What sizes should I get? I want fatter/wider tires in the back and average size in the front. I was thinking 15x6's in the front and 15x8's in the back. Will these fit with out rubbing? Thanks for your help. I was also thinking about changing my interior color to all black. Check out my cardomain site and let me know if you think that black will look good. Thanks again for all your help.

well considering my iroc comes with 16X8 front and back you wont have any problem. I wouldnt normally like those rims but if youre going with 15's and some fat tires itll look good!

Just as a reference the rs's came with 15X7 wheels all around so 15x6 up front will be pretty skinny but shouldnt be too bad. I would actually go a little wider in the back too if you can get those rims in a 15X9 or 15X10 you should still be okay in terms of not having any rub, 15X10 is cutting it close though

Rims

Thanks. I will have to look and see if I can get them any bigger. So your Iroc came with 16's? Why do I think my Z came with 15's? I will have to check into the 15x9's and the 15x10's. Maybe even see if they come in 16's. Thanks for the ideas and help.

Another member on this board "Ricktpi" has those wheels on his 87 Z28. I think it looks kinda cool actually, it has an old school look to it.

Ok say I do buy these rims. What back spacing do I need? The 15x8's come in 4", 4 1/2", and 5". Would I need the same on the front.

RickTPI has the rallye's but with a different center cap. I think the center cap I want looks better than the smooth round one but they both look good. Thanks again for all of your responses.

i forget the backspacing but its the same all around. The front rims have 0 degree offset and the backs are 16. someone will chime in with that.

The 16" wheel was an option that most people with the z28/iroc chose but some did not. Chances are your car just wasnt optioned that way.

If you go with those rims i personally would go with 15". Those rims have a really old school look so less rim and more tire would be the look id go for, especially if youre going skinny tires up front (6 inch wide) and 8"/9"/10" out back then youll basically have a drag setup so might as well plus i have a feeling the large tire small rim combo with those would just look so schweet.

And i agree the center cap on the ones you posted make those rims.

rims look sweet.. you can find them without the spiners too. they were originally used on early 1 st gen camaro, chevelle, and vette. i would go bigger in the front 6" is to narrow, you may want like a 215 70 15 in the front and a 235 60 15 in the rear so you need a wider wheel for the front. min 7" for a 70 series tire you would want like a 8 or 9 for the 60 series tire for the rear, or you could go mean looking and go with beefy 60's all around that is what i would do. plus it would handel better with wide all around.

post picks if you go with them would love to see it.

Rims

Thanks for the offer Camaroracer. I would take you up on it but I want something with a different look. I really don't like looking like everything else. Since the moment I seen these rims I wanted them. Thanks for the ideas JeffW. I don't want the same size all around. I want my rear tires looking bigger so I will probably get the 7's for the front and the 8's for the rear. I probably won't get them on my car until the spring or early summer. I have my Z packed up for a "face lift" for the winter. I can't wait until I get them. Thanks again for the ideas.

I would say no on 7's up front IMO. I have 9.5's all around but if I were to do diffrent sizes I would go 8 or 8.5 fronts and 9.5 rears. I love the traction I have compared to 7.5's all around previously. It all depends on your budget and if the wheels are even made the size you want.

I have 17x9.5's all around but they track bad. Supposedly I read thats why they stopped putting 17x9.5's all around on corvettes and switched to 8.5's? up front on 92 and newer vettes. Too many complaints from rich customers!

Damn rich people. I hate them all. Not really I just envy them. The problem with 9.5 rears is the largest they make them is 8. So I am limited to either 8's all around or 7's and lower on front and 8's on the rear. Like I said before I will probably do the 7's up front and the 8's in the rear. 9.5's would be nice but I don't think they make them. I will probably do a phone order so I could ask before I buy them if they come any bigger. Thanks for the idea though. I will check into it.

Yeah I agree on the white letters, when I had some 15" Amer. Racing wheels the white letter tires made it look real good.

Listen to this man, you will not notice a visual difference with the 7's up front so go with 8's all around youll thank your self for it later. Here is a pic of my car with 16X8 iroc wheels all around the 8 inch looks nice

I think the rims will look great, do keep us posted!

I always liked the smaller rim, bigger white letter tire look; but that's prob because that was like my 1st car lol

14"x6 all around if I remember right, and I had some big tires on there... 255/60/14 I think.

Right now I have 15"x8 rims on the back of my car, and I have 245/60 on there. They rub on the very edge of the tire (must be when I hit a bump or cornering)

This is a progress pic from over the summer, car looks better! Those rims on the back are my roll the car around rims, but you can see the 15" on the back.

Guess what 19doug90 and all you other people that have been helping me out with my decision here. It just got harder. I was looking through a Paddock Parts catalog that I have and guess what I found. They have Chrome Rally Wheels in sizes 15x6- 15x10. :lala: The prices on these go from 99.95-119.95. The 15x6's -15x7's are 99. The 15x8's are 109. And the 15x10's are 119 each. I can buy them in sets of four. These sets range from 359.95-429.95. I was thinking 2 15x8's and 2 15x10's. What do you guys think? There is one problem though. They don't come with center caps. Where can I find the center caps I want? Thanks guys for your help now I need a little more help. Let me know what you think or if you know where I can find those caps.

Rally's from paddock

Thanks again guys/gals.

i really think you'd be happier with 8's all around as you can rotate them which extends tire life and ride quality it also improves tracking in corners and they are less likely to "float" or hydroplane on wet or snowy days
