hey, i wanna put some 18x11 rims in the back. I need some help finding some good ones. I want something that looks like the newer c5 rims. chrome would be good too since im going with dark red paint. post some pics up for me, thanks!

Well I saw your list of mods to come and I thought some HRE's would match the rest of the car, but then I saw your current funds and thought "well he might be able to get just the rims"

But if you do plan on getting alot more money (which I assume you do looking at your lsit of mods) Then some custom made rims would be the best way to go. You'd still probably have to tub the wheel wells though I think 11's are to wide for a stock bodied thirdgen

those rims look really good. and money isnt a problem, that was just 2 months worth of money i managed to somehow save. i plan on having like 10,000 to spend in like 3 or 4 months.

whats the difference between the 545r and 545 series for the hre's? and money isnt an issue, but i dont wanna spend way to much when i could be perfectly happy with something cheaper. so keep em coming, those hre's are looking damn good though.

and this may be a dumb question, but ...on the hre site, is the pricing for a set or for each wheel? cause if thats for each wheel id rather get a supercharger or some other power mod.

alright i could never justify payng that much for rims when i could put the money towards more go. i think im looking to pay less than 2500 for all 4.

stick to a cheaper 2 piece billet wheel from boyd, budnik, billet specialties, etc.

the advantage to hre and the many companies similar is in most cases they are a 3 piece wheel which is very convenient for race cars which they are intended to go on. you can find exact duplicates of higher end wheels through alot of other companies. a 2 piece can be just as light but alot more reasonable.

a good reason why you would want a 2 piece wheel over a cast wheel such as an oem or knock off vette wheel is because of the custom fitment. especially if you plan on running 11" in the rear you will need this sort of deal to make them fit right and not look terrible.

you could for example run a true 17" zr1 11" rear wheel using an adapter or 4thgen rear of sorts but then you will run into custom fitment issues which will require alot or research to fit and look right.

the fact you want to run 18's already points out your not completely worried about straightline performance. with new dr options coming out everyday you can get some really nice straight line performance out of the 18's but the weight of the wheel become very important. a good example is my stock 16" z wheel with tire weighed a little over 50lbs and my 18" z06 9.5's were a little more and the 10.5 wheels were almost 6lbs more. you may ask what the point is but my new 2 piece billet wheels in 18" are almost 20lbs less a wheel with the tire. add that into consideration taking close to 90lbs of rotational weight and it's a huge comparison in power and driveability......we won't even get into having to use adapters to fit the vette wheels.

anyhow, to put it simply you pay for what you get in most instances. there is such a thing as going over board but a nice 2 peice billet wheel will suit you just fine.

hmmm, i was looking at 18x10.5 2000 c5 rims on ebaY. i think 10.5 will be wide enough out back. im trying to get a mix of perfermance and looks because both are very important to me.

so your saying i would be better off not getting the vette rims? they sure are cheap.

another thing is i have to decide on is the rear. im thinkin about just going ahead and spending the money on a moser 9 bolt rear. i know you dont need spacers in the back if you get a 4th gen rear but i dont think the 4th gen rear will be strong enough. i guess i need to look into this a bit more.

you can get your custom rear in any length possible so if you are running 4thgen or another large offset then stock you can just have longer axles cut.

unless your running an extreme amount of power pushing 450+ at the wheels i wouldn't worry about a rear until you really need one. too many people are ready to ditch good equipment before they even break it.

vette wheels are fine as they are very cheap and you can make a 10.5 rim fit with very little effort. i'm just against adapters.

well, i am seriously considering the vette rims. and i got a 383 thats going in so i dont know if the stock axle can take it. plus i wanna get rear disc, 3.73 gears, and a limited slip. i could take care of all of that if i got a new axle now. i think the vette rims would look good with some big *** brakes like the ones u got. am i gonna need to do the front and back to make it look right? they sell the kits in 2's... so im thinkin this is gonna cost me also. but i dont mind spending the money, i just mind waiting for it to come in.

all things to consider. rim choice is very important but its also important to have something nice behind those wheels if you go with something that is that open.

things to think about are options. if you feel that a new rear is ideal there are cheaper options for 4thgen setups so if you plan to use 4thgen wheels as well this is definately a better way to go.

one thing to remember is to plan fully. just like your engine, a 383 can still come short on power so don't think because of that alone you will need to replace everything under the sun.

if it were me and i had to run 4thgen wheels i'd go with a used 3.73 good condition 4thgen rear that already has disc brakes. upgrade to some nice looking rotors and call it a day.

alright im definately going with the 2000 c5 chrome rims. now my question about them....i see alot of replica's on ebay and they seem very cheap price wise. im just worried that ill buy some and when i get them they will look cheap as well. anybody got any experience with these? or any other places i can get them?

oem concepts is the only company that uses gm's exact casting for their wheels. so if you want the best quality there you go.

i've seen many others from AAA, performance wheel outlet, detroit and the rest. it's a gamble but you save alot so it's all preference. if you do a search on the internet you'll find alot of horror stories about aaa and pwo although if you search here you'll find nothing but praises.
