Been there done that. I also straped a matress to the top when I moved just down the street from where I was living before that. Also with the t top off the passenger side can hold a a 24 x 24 ft rug easily and still have enough room for 13 med to large christmas boxes. LOL

I would just call it making due with what you have. I have done it many times (never strapped stuff to the out side).

From my neck of the woods, we call that ghetto......
But then again.....you gotta do what you gotta do....
I've drove around with my car 6 different colors as listed below.........
Hood - Grey
Front Nose - Blue
Front lower gfx - black
Doors, Fenders, spoiler - white
Rear Bumper - Red
REST OF CAR - Teal
And yes, i probally got the same stares from other motorists that you encounter while driving around with that all strapped to your car....

Its not the classiest way to move parts but if your thirdgen is the only vehicle you have at the time and the parts need to be moved, I can certanatly understand. I would borrow a pickup truck before I ever strap anything to the roof of my car. If it doesn't fit inside my car with the hatch closed, well then that part will not be coming along for the ride.
I once had 2 bicycles hanging out the rear of my car as I went to return with my roomate to back to Walmart.

You gotta do what ya gotta do We were at the junkyard that day and we needed a black front clip and hood. We were lucky to find a black Iroc in there so we got what we needed. When we were down we called up all our friends with pickups but they were all busy so the only option was to put the clip in the trunk and strap the hood to the roof Hopefully I wont have to do that again.

me and momar have used my iroc's and his ta to strip a few ta's down. also have used his t- bird turbo coupe and my supra.
so no it is not a hick thing, just a last case scenario
hey parts are worth it. i tryed haulling my t 56 home in the back of the roc but would not fit without takeing the bellhousing off, so it came home in greg's monte.
thanks

hey man i been there. once not to long ago i had an old 305 out of my iroc up for grabs (i was just sick of tripping over it so i gave it away) and this kid calls me and asks if it will fit in a 91 firebird. i was like "yeah it will fit in any f-body, the motor mounts are different and you need new harness but it will fit" and he said "no no i mean literally, i have no other car, will it fit in the back of a 91 bird?" LOL
we eventually stuffed that thing in there after folding down the back seat but it took both of us quite a while. i have no idea how the hell he got it back out of there.....
not too long ago there was a thread floating around where a guy wanted to know if he could put a canoe on his 'bird....
i also once saw a guy on I-75 in a brand new corvette....TOWING A BOAT!!!!!
amazing what people will do.....

Maybe he couldnt get the 305 out of the back so he just converted it to mid engine?
ouch, poor corvette, makes me sad to see what people do with cars that I should be driving instead.

*******...nah
You got the s**t home didn't you? I stuffed 2 doors a nose and a ton of other stuff IN the 'bird to get it all home from my buddy's house, 60 miles away when his wife made me get the car out of her yard. He was helping me with the restoration with her permission but it was taking too long and she wanted her yard back...lol

lol, doug I thought id outgrown ******* jokes, but i guess not. And yes ive moved an entire apartment in my maro..a few times. Four snakes (and there cages), my computer, my stereo (its pretty friggin big), clothes...lots..and lots of clothes, two bass guitars uhmm yea I guess thats pretty much everything i own. And yes i fit in as well. I dont know if i could manage putting anything in my car that might in any way scratch, dent or anything to that matter i'd probably have a heart attack while I was driving. And yea it depends on what part of the country your in whether or not this is ******* or ghetto...here its ghetto about 20 miles east of me its *******! (man i love my town) Anyways, dude why didnt you just tie the hood down to the hood, then no one would have noticed! lol..

When I had my first camaro, I bought some used rims and tires and the tires where no good so I had to get four more and stick all of it into the car with the hacth closed. Went to school in the moring then went to the shop afterwards. So alltogether it was me a backpack four rims and tires and four more tires with the hatch closed! And I thought learning how to pack a backpack in boy scouts was a waste of time!

Hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Ive carried quite a few large items in my vert, including a full set of 4th gen seats, and 4 17x11 rims with tires on them (with the top up none the less... that was quite interesting).

I had to break down a full size waterbed that my wife wanted. We got it for $50. I got the bladder, side rails, headboard, and footing pedestal in the T/A.
Good thing I stuffed it in there at night. Covered the stuff, tied the hatch to the body and got it home okay.
