How do you remove scratches from glass???

Just wondering if anyone knows how to get scratches out of glass. My side windows are scratched up from my old cracked window sweeps. I replaced the sweeps and would like to tint the windows, anyone have any idea how I could get these scratches removed. They are on the outside, so it wouldn't stop me from tinting the windows, but I think they would show up bad. Thanks in advance Jason

I have never heard of anything that could take a scratch out of glass. If I were you I'd head over to the junkyard and see what they want for a pair of good windows. It's probably not that much.

Mild cutting polish, like T-Cut, will do the trick. Just polish it like it was the bodywork. It's worked for me many times.

Thanks, I knew I had saw a post on it before. Could you give me the exact instructions so I don't mess anything up. Thanks again Jason

Yes, but what about the deep scratches like one finds on the door glass where it has been rubbing on something inside the door? You know, the ones that are a couple of inches wide?

Put a small dab on a soft cloth and use small circular motions to rub the cutting polish in. After it appears to have rubbed into the glass (in fact it has just soaked into the cloth) use another CLEAN soft cloth and vigorously buff the area until the glass shines. Repeat the process 3 or 4 times until the scratches are gone. If you have to do it more than 5 times, the scratches are probably too deep to polish out, and you are in danger of distorting your vision through the glass by taking many layers off. Be careful, and take your time.

Oh, and good luck!

You need to get hold or some cerium oxide and a polishing wheel. Nothing else works. Dont get the glass too hot when polishing

Are you talking about the deep scratches that Sitting Bull mentioned? Because my first post does state that T-Cut has "worked for me many times" on mild scratches caused by the window rubbers etc..

btw, noone mentioned this so i'll add it..

if you stay in the same place and dont move around the whole glass area, you distort the view.....

T cut will remove a mark that is on the surface of the glass. If the glass is scratched you need 1500 wet and dry paper to flat the scratch and cerium oxide to polish the glass. There is some distortion afterwards as the glass is dished in. I spent a lot of time removing a scratch that a wiper made to the windscreen using various things such as Tcut, valve gringing paste, toothpaste!, jif and nothing really worked except cerium oxide which is what glass manufacturers use to polish glass.
The only real fix is to replace the glass if it has deep scratches.

I think what I'm calling a scratch, you're calling a mark. Your version of a scratch, yes indeed the method you have posted is the only way around it....but replacement is always best as you say.
