Is anyone running a "lift-off" hood?
Im looking at getting a cervini 3'' cowl and got to looking at the prices. Half the price for a lift-off. People say they are a PITA because you have to take them off to check anything. Ive heard of people just propping them up to check under the hood.
Is anyone running a lift off? I think It would actually come in handy at times when your doing big mods.
What do you think?

Personally I hate the look of pins holding your hood down. It just looks ghetto. I did work an a 73 camaro and all we did was unbolt the hood and set it to the side, took all of 2 minutes.

Car: too many ...
I will be converting my stock 89 RS hood to a lift off hood. The first part of the plan is to completely gut the hood so the only material left is the outside sheetmetal (weight reduction purposes). Next part of the plan is to drill the holes and get the car ready (remove the hinges, install the pins). This will be used for tracks (roadracing) only. This will also give me the option of running with no hood (very very hot days).

i have a harwood lift off cowl hood on my car. i didn't use pins, it's duzsed on. i am thinking about pins on the front for a safety measure. you save 75 pounds off the ftont of the car. it takes some fabrication for the front and rear duzs fasteners. also needs 2 people to get it off the car, or some "special" handeling tools to extend your reach and grasp. sorry no pics and if i did have them i'm not smart enough to post them.

I had a parts car with a 2" cowl lift-off hood a while back and for what it's worth nobody wanted it , even for free, lol. (wasn't mint , but wasn't bad either). They are a huge pita to take off/on , that was a parts car so I didn't care and would just grab it , lift it and throw it on the grass or something , but I can't imagine doing it if it had nice paint on it or something , lol.
lets say you're driving in traffic while your fuel hose comes loose/breaks or anything else for that matter happens , you don't want to spend 5 minutes trying to get the hood off

I have a harwood 3" liftoff on mine and am using the zues pins(however you spell it). They dont stick out at all and look pretty good. Id rather have a lift off than bolt on. Just easier to work on the motor without a big hood in your way. Plus its less weight. heres a pic

anyone have pictures of the pins that dont show? cervinis website has them listed but I have no idea what they are.
Ive lifted off my steel hood by myself. It was just extremely huge and sort of heavy. Im sure a lift off would be much much lighter especially since its fiberglass.
I do hate the looks of hood pins tho. But no matter what Im running a set on the front for good measure.
Ive heard to many stories of people putting there new hoods on and the latch not be quiet right and the hood fly up on them.

This is the only other picture that might help you out. This picture shows the tabs I welded to the fender for the pins to fasten too. The pins get pushed down and you have to turn them to the right with a screwdriver for them to lock in place.

they have their place and time. i mean it is a pain to take on and off but if u have a friend its easy. my friend use to have to have another guy help and then i told him to use a suction cup attached to a stick and just lift it off and that worked. u have 2 benefits its lighter and its not in the way when u work on it. u have lots of disadvantages, takes 2 people most of the time, need pins, theirs more but those are the major.

I may end up getting a bolt on cervini 3'' cowl. How much heavier are the bolt ons compared to the lift offs?
