Proper backspacing for 18" rims?

Ive done a search looking for the proper backspacing for the rims I wana run but I cant find a definite answer as of yet. I am planning on running 18x9.5 up front and 18x11 out back. I have read that 5.5" will work for the front and 5.5 or 6" will work out back but i wana make 100% sure before I throw down thousands of dollars for wheels that dont fit. Also these wheels will be run without any spacers so please dont suggest that. The rims im looking at are a 3 piece design so they can be made any way I need, just wana get everything right. Is anyone actually running these size rims on their car and do you have any pictures??? Thanks a lot for the help.

If you really want to make sure, find the Skulte Adapter FAQ and do your own measurements. You are planning to run some very wide wheels so the fitment will have to be perfect. The only advice I can give is not to get worried because they are 18's, what you need to be concerned with are the width, offset, and backspacing of the wheel. You might want to look for people running 17.9.5 fronts and 17x11 rears and use what they used as far as backspacing/offset. The fact that you will be running 18's only means you will have to run a tire with a smaller sidewall to get the same overall dimensions.

What is the max tire size for the rear? I just put on 17x9.5 with 5.5 of back spacing the tires have 275/40's(all around). Can we use 285/35's in the back w/o rubbing?

with the 18x11's out back I am going to run at least 315's out back.

I read Skulte's adapter faq. He says that the max backspacing that you can run is 5" in the front and 5.85" in the rear. Ive seen a lot of people hear saying to run 5.5 up front and 6" in the back. Is skulte limiting his backspacing because of sheetmetal that can be moved out of the way or is there some component of the suspension that will get in the way if I run more backspacing. I wouldnt mind the rear tires sticking out more to where the side of the tire is lined up with the lip of the wheel flair so maybe I dont need THAT much backspacing, 5.75" may work.

The best thing to do is mock up a piece that bolts in 2 places to your studs and has a long bolt in that that you can turn in gradually. Turn it in a little at a time and spin it around until it hits something. Then use that measurement. Keep in mind you might have to do that in several different places to make sure you have it all covered.

Heres the reply I got from the guy at Group A Wheels:

both the ROH Modena and Simmons FR18 are built to order to your required specs

A set of (4) ROH Modena, (2) 18x9.5 & (2) 18x11 are priced at $2695.00

A set of (4) Simmons FR18, (2) 18x9.5 & (2) 18x11, are priced at $2550.00 if order before June 30th, 2003 and $2750.00 if ordered after June 30th, 2003.

We use a 5.5" backspace on the 9.5 and with inner fender modifications a 6.18" on a 10.5, we typically run a 10 with a 5.875" backspace with a 295/35r18 Toyo Proxes T1S. We have no experience with a 315/30r18 on a 11" wide wheel as of yet. We have done a 315/35r17 with a 10.5 6.18" backspace, but a bit sticky out for my taste., you have above 12" of width to work with on the rear fenders measured from 12 o'clock to max inside at 6.25".
