I am debating a Ram Air hood and I was just wondering what yall thought of a Ram Air Hood for my 1989 Formula http://www.ramairhood.com/ram_air_ho.../package_1.htm
here are some pics of my bird if anyone could put this hood in on photoshop I would apreciate it. here are some pics of my bird you can paste the hood to.
Thanks for any help

Go w/ the ram air1 hood it goes w/ the body lines on your car better! Just my opinion but make sure to look into it! I think you would be happier w/ it in the long run.

yep. Go with the ram air 1 hood instead, I think it would look alot better on you car.
To me, Ram air 1's look best on formulas and Ram air 2's look best on TA's. But thats just me.

Personally, I like the ram air 1 hoods on the 91-92 birds, and the ram air 2 on the older cars. J's TA put a ram air 2 on his black trans am, it's an 82 (I think) without the newer larger ta gfx. That might give you a basic idea of what your car will look like.

Well Well Wella .............
In my wise opinion.......
Man i love those hoods
i also love your Formula Hood
But think about this ....RAI and II seems to be made for
91-92 Front ends....they look so cool
On the other fronts they look out of place
FRONTS WITH RA I AND II :
1 82-84 front ends-------looks awful
2 85-90 they look great but ...somethings missing on agressivity
3 85-90 T/A Great but too much squared style
4 91-92 Seems to match perfectly
5 91-92 FORMULA FRONT------Looks like a big Dragon ready to eat anything !!!
Go for it ...but think twice which style you'll pick
Id go for tha last one

RA I looks good on any thirdgen. Ram Air II looks good on 1991-1992 Formulas and Trans-AMs. If you do put on RA II hood on a 1985-1990 Trans-AM then you need to get a fourth gen wing to match the whole car to the style of the hood like on the 1985-1990 TA in the first pic of this thread.

Thanks.
I know a lot of you got TPI's so the RA hood actually works.
I want to get the RA2 yet want to avoid the r*cer idea of "it just looks fast"
So if I got a hose of some sort and ran it from the vents right up to a butterfly air cleaner, would that help?

Midnight Sun:-
See www.ramairhood.com (clickable link at the top of your screen!) for all the info you need on the Ram Air 2 hood, including the new air box they'll sell you with the hood if required. Perfectly functional with SD set-up, or with a relocated MAF. You may then decide that this is better than hosing to a 'butterfly' cleaner.

midnight sun... just me being a little ignorant here but wouldn't you get much the same effect by bonding in a sheet of aluminium (UK spelling sorry!! ) could be cheaper and IMO would certainly look better especially if highly polished... btw have a look at the link and see if this is any use.... http://ramairhood.com/images/ram_pon...-underside.jpg

ram air
your tube idea going to the butterflies would work great, just take your time and do it right... TO THE OTHERS>>>> I also have that air box for my ra2 hood and tpi setup and I hate it.. I mean yes it's far better than stock, but if take off the grills on your hood and shine a flashlight in there(when the hood is closed) you can see how much higher the top of the box sits than the intake holes.. I am right now trying to make my own that should work much better...
And I agree, with some ground affects the hood would look much better...

Heh sorry, I just read my post and I realized I didnt even say I was running a carb set-up.
No need for apologies, it was my bad.
I really like that aluminum sheet idea, it would look a whole lot nicer.
2 questions
-How and where would can I buy aluminum sheets?
-If I did do this, would getting air rammed into the carb like that help performnace wise?(and would it even have to be a butterfly?)
..heh.. ok 3 questions.
-What is a blowout cap?

And now for the really silly idea... get the sheet of aluminium polished and etched (bow tie... Z28.... anything along those lines)... should look really good at shows...

where exactly does the filter sit in those intakes, is it in the circled area or up in the front (front of car)???

no, no, no, you seem to be having a problem understanding me. i said run the blow through cap as opposed to that stupid scoop thing you had in the picture above. the blow through cap will not only flow better, it will cost less. you can get them through ati. you do not have to run a super/turbocharger to run the cap. it just goes on top of the carburator which will direct air into the motor. and trust me, i know what it's like to be a poor high schooler. i just graduated yesterday. as a result, i just got poorer.

Heh... I have an idea, lets pool OUR money together, and fix MY car.
... Congrats, I still have a year left.
So even with a carb if I were ramming air to it, it would help? It isnt just a TPI thing?

Me?
I dont need anything.
I want a 350 mated with a 5 speed. New paint, new weatherstripping, RA 2 hood, new rims, 4th gen seats, and new headliner board.
Wow, that isnt a lot when I listed it out.
yay.

midnight, yes, forcing air into the motor is not a bad thing. it generally brings more performance.
i say we fix MY car. at least your car runs. i have to run around in my mother's minivan until i can by another vehicle. the camaro was a 2.8->350 swap gone bad. the rotating assembly froze up before it even started. i haven't had a chance to get the motor back out and apart either. the motor is going to be kinda radical though and will probably never see the street again. at least not on a regular basis. the plans are as follows: custom cam from Budd Performance, Ported and polished 416 casting heads with new 2.02/1.60 manely valves. whatever springs pat puts in the heads, forged flattop pistons (probably JE) ~10.3:1 compression, victor jr. intake, holley 750dp, NX hitman kit 250shot. custom th350 by west racing transmissions, ATI custom torque converter, moser 12 bolt w/ 4.10:1 gears, 31 or 33 spline axles and a full spool. oh yeah, and a 12pt chromoly cage. needless to say, the project has a way to go. eventually i will put a big bloc together for it. i will also use spohn suspension goodies. i am trying to run the nmca BFG Drag Radial class.
