Painting GFXs
I just bought a 87 Camaro that is white with gold gfx. I want to paint the gfx to match the rest of the car. Im thinking of take off the ground effects and sanding and paint them but I have never done anything like this before and need to know the steps that are involved.

What condition are the gfx in? If there are no scratches, chips, or spider webbing, it should be a simple scuff and shoot. Taking them off will get you the best final finish. It will make it easier to get an even coat of paint on the top and bottom. It wil also be easier to sand. If there are deep scratches, chips, and especially spiderwebbing, you need to sand these blemishes out till they are smooth with the rest of the gfx.
Gfx are made of urathane and they will need to be painted with a paint that has a flexagent in it. If not the first time they are bumped at all, they will crack. Think spray paint on a rubbermaid trash can, now think about bending the plastic at all. The body shop would also be better suited to get the paint to match the existing body color, even white changes tone with age...
If you are dead set on painting it yourself, then see if you can get some sound advice from a body shop.
