Bought some rear Weld Draglites 15x8 with 5.5" backspacing. I was told 10.5" wide tires would fit fine with this backspacing but it sure didnt..... After 15 minutes with a sledge hammer they fit though

I snapped these at night so they're a little crappy. They tuck under the car nicely though

any chance u can get a few shots of where u hit to make them fit? becuz im lookin to get the 15x8's and get a set of slicks but im not sure how wide to go. if u went with like a 10'' wide slick do u think they would have fit with no problems?

I used to run 295/50s on a 15X8 with 4 3/4" backspacing.
All that was needed was to trim the lip of the fender. I think 295/50 has about a 12" section width and 9.5" tread width. I know it fits cause I had it on my 84 and 89 and it used to tuc nicely with a 2" drop.

I'll take some better pictures tomorrow. With a 10" tire I think they'd fit. I had more of a problem with the driver's side wheel well. I still need to beat it out a little more to make it perfect. The e-brake cable also hits the sidewall a little bit.
