thats cool that you can do that, but i know in massachusetts your lucky if the cops even come if you call them. Ive NEVER seen them dust for prints, and they wont do it if you tell them to, only if they feel that its necessary, which it isnt because it would require effort

My suggestion is to take your faceplate off and get you a giant snake and lay it in the back seat. I had a security alarm on my car and someone still broke in to it and stole my radio and cd's. Train the snake to attach anyone but you and you will be fine. I had the stickers on the window and everything. I want to get a Python and make a sign that says "My car is protected by a python snake not the alarm." I know it sounds stupid but it will keep people out of your car.

everyone has good ideas to stop theft.. your best bet is to put in all of them.. get an alarm, the unbreakable auto lock, the grant steering wheel security system.. and it just makes the car not worth steeling to a theif they will go look for something much much easier. just dont leave the steering wheel in the car when you take it off otherwise some punk might steel it to **** you off. and if you go with the grant.. be prepared to hear some weird reactions when people see you with your steering wheel. i have it and i think ive heardem all by now.

My dad happens to be very close friends with a higher up member of the local chapter of the Hells Angels. So I have a small "Support the Hells Angels" sticker on my drivers window.

People seem to leave me alone.

not to scare you but.....

I can get into a thirdgen in 8 seconds or less just by using the radio antenna,and a t-top is easier than a hardtop.

i own 2 t-top firebirds and do tend to park em with the t's off in large parking lots i have had a club on all my thirdgens for the last 12 years,also i have wired a kill switch to the distributor on all them as well.

i also would (i haven't yet) get a steering column collar it is not that hard punch the column and start the car. and like the other guys said don't crank the stereo around school or to near where else it'll be parked,i do leave my removable face in the car but i put it in the locking storage in the rear ds panel.

On an automatic, pull off the shift **** and remove the white plastic pin. Pocket the pin and put the **** back on. Without a skinny phillips a thief won't be able to shift out of park. At the very least it will cost him time and give him an excessive amount of frustration.

Thats a good one, just be sure to keep a spare shifter around for when he decides to force it back and breaks it

you know how the drag cars have the battery disconnect switch? install one under your dash somewhere, but only that you know of, make sure its inside so when you get in you click it and you can start it, if someone trys to joyride, the joystops when it wont start. i think that is the best thing to do, it isnt all that expensive and it would be easy, just a couple wires.

wouldnt that be hilarious to see? someone try to steal your car and they cant start it because they dont know where a switch is, then you walk up and nail him in the head with something heavy and file a report. you get the money for what he broke, and you you are the talk of the school, people wouldnt try to mess with it anymore.

Theives are good at finding kill switchs, under the dash is probably one of the worst places for it. I say behind the rear plate outside the car

well if its outside then you have to hit it before you get in. if you do that it gives people the opportunity to see you do it, then they know. put it somewhere that nobody would think of, like the dome light switch, make it the battery disconnect instead

Around here (Philly / South Jersey), parking in two spaces is asking for somene to f-with your car. Don't do it, especially if student parking is crowded. Someone who is late to class because they cannot find a spot and see you taking two won't be too happy. Parking in two spaces is as bad as alarms that give a warning if you walk next to them. As college kids when we heard "Viper, stand back.. this car is protected by viper..." we used to turn our class rings backwards and smack the car as we alked by. Rarely did it do damage but it set off the alarm and we would sit back to wait for the a-hole owner come running from his dorm.

I agree, in college towns your biggest worry should be drunk kids vandalizing or bumping into your car, not trying to steal it. The more you draw attention to a car, whether by music, loud exhaust, or just trying to have the most expensive one there the more people will mess with it.

I had a friend wire a kill switch inside the sunglasses pouch in the overhead console, he would reach up for his shades and hit the switch then when hwe parked it would look like he was putting his shades up there and hit the switch to active it. cool idea.

Someone tried to still my car at Ga Tech so there is a risk. Alarm, hide a kill switch, and remove anything that can be easly taken to keep people from breaking the window for something.

also get good insurance, if they want it that bad they are going to get it no matter what you do and you will at least get something back if they do steal it.

Transmission: 700r4, vette servo,shift kit, hayden 15"x8" trans cooler.
YOu can shave your handles and leave the locks , just run the rod that went to the handle to the lock, so now when you turn the key the door opens.

BTW i dont think shaving handles is really a good thing to stop people from stealing your car since you can pull out the top of the window and unlock the door.

If the low life scum want your car they'll find a way to get it.
Guy i know had a alarm, pop off steering wheel, kill switch and a gas pedal to shifter lock and they just pulled up with a flat bed and took the car anyway.

The reason I brought this post back has to do with the Z28 I just purchased. I was working on the interior when I accidentally and obliviously tripped a kill switch that a previous owner had installed under the dash. There was also a tiny red button next to the switch. After locating the switch and flipping it back (or what I think was back- I don't know how many times it may have been flipped the first time) the car still wouldn't start and I was forced to disconnect and reconnect the battery. Consequently, I later did a search here on Third Gen involving kill switches. On reading this post I decided why not share a fresh idea with other F-Body owners.


Now since its out in the open, If anyone has an idea as to how my kill switch might work and what the button is for, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks-

A garage works well.

Removing the coil wire too (non-HEI) or unplugging the coil (HEI) would work well too to keep the car in one place.

Not sure about kill switches but I just installed my Grant removable steering wheel today.

*** what a pain!!! Low back is hurting...but at least its done at it works great.

Who is going to steal a car without a steering wheel??
