Idea about radiator shroud dress up......

I posted this a while back and got a few responces from it. I had an idea though. I was at home depot the other day and ran across some shiny insulation tape that you use on heat piping and duct work..ect. Its shiny on one side, sticky on the other but also has a littly cusion to it. Could this be used on my radiator shroud to dress it up? Has anyone ever done this before. The regular shiny tape is to thin and would prolly get nard up and scratched before i knew it. Any info at all would help. Thanks.

i'd say try it, the tape isn't very expensive and you could always take it off. What's it called and how thick is it? I need to line the underside of my hood with something and that sounds ideal.

Send pics and let us know how it looks

That doesn't sound like it would look to good. It would look best to just leave it alone.

im gonna try it. cant hurt right? I dont know....i just think its going to look funny having all the chrome stuff on my motor and this big black thing that sticks right out in front. Ill let you know what i came up with. I got to look at it closer to know what exactly its made out of. It doesnt look like it will get marked up easily..plus im putting new hood insulation in anyways so that will help too.

Hmm, I think that would look kinda gaudy. I would paint it the body color or something else. What is the width of the tape?

If it has to shine, best bet would be chrome illusion paint...it looks decent when correctly done, and I promise much better then what you're planning now.

that stuff is for duct work. its crap. i actually used parts of it on my ram air mod cause i used flexy shiny tubing, it doesnt stick too well and it creases very easily it does look gaudy i wouldnt expect it to line your hood with tom. however at home depot ther eis a nice roll of shiny insulation for 22 bucks that looks like shiny bubble wrap and its cool i plan on lining my hood with that.

the chrome paint never really worked all that well it sorta just makes things silver. i would try to powder coat if it wasnt for obvious reasons (reminds me of the dumb druggie trying to freebase with a plastic spoon) all i can say is do what some people did and sand the hell out of it then polish

It sounds like you are really bent on doing this. I think this is one of those cases where you will have to try it to really make up your mind.

A good example is when I bought window louvers for my car despite everyone saying how ugly they looked and how much of a problem they were. I bought them anyways and had them on my car for 3 months. Now I wish I never even bought them.

I was just trying to save you some time and possibly money. So, go ahead and try it. If it looks good, then post it and prove me wrong. If it looks bad, I'll say I told you so, but at least you gave it a shot.

Just buy a chrome radiator shroud. I'm sure places sell them, not sure for how much, though.

I had to throw them away. I raised the louvers up to clean the hatch and all of the sudden a huge gust of wind blew the louvers off of my car. They slammed on the roof of my car, then they hit the side of a tree, and then landed in street only to be run over by a pickup truck passing by.

So, they were beyond repairing. Sorry.
