anyone changed the color of their gauge needles have pics???im interested in diff. color needles, both lit (at night) and not lit (in day).

im thinking of blue needles (with gauges left stock firebird orange), but am unsure of how it would look during the day.

How about clear? These are not in my car right now, I still need to get around to installing this cluster. I scraped all the orange paint off the back of the needles with an xacto, then polished them to make them super clear.

i can't exactly remember the site name but there is a site out there where you can buy needles that have little LED lights in them or something but they are clear during the day and when you light them up the glow kinda like neon color of what ever color you want they got blue, red, i think green what ever color you want them to glow i think they got it. it's like some import site but i thought they were pretty cool.

Anyone change the color of the gauge cluster lights on a Trans Am? How hard is it? Aren't the bulbs just 194? I can't stand that orange color and wanted to go with a different color.

Are the bulbs themselves the orange color is the their a color backing that the bulbs are behind to give them color? I know in my dad's Volvo the bulbs are behind a thin green plastic sheet that gives the color we are used to seeing in gauge clusters. Has anyone changed the color of the gauge cluster lights?

I changed the lights in my gauges in my Firebird once. To get the orangish/reddish color the bulbs have little plastic covers on them that come right off. I had blue bulbs in there once but I guess I had cheap ones because the blue color faded after awhile. I will soon try again.

did you touch the bulbs with your fingers because i know that the natural oil that your body produces rubs off from you fingers to the bulb and causes the color to be almost eattin away from the bulb i know this because my overhead light keeps fadeing because i replace the colored bulb with my fingers my suggestion next time wear rubber gloves or something to keep your fingers from touching the bulb.

i have heard about the oils from fingers causing bulbs to burn too hot, and possibly burning out, but i dont think that is why the color is fading form his. that seems more likely because he probably had bulbs that were "painted" rather than actual solid colored glass.

as for the website with the led needle kits...i have seen it, it is www.importintelligence.com they are very cool, but i wont get them. i just want to change the color of the needle.

ward...thanks for the pics...i used them to photoshop some different needle colors like i want....would love to hear how yours look lit after you install them.

would still love to see some more actual pics....

i think the orange intelliglow LED needles from importintelligence would look hella sweet with the orange guage color also the DIY needles look sweet too!

Sometime, I plan on redoing them again. I think I am going to either keep the red needles and paint the reflective plate so it reflects more of a blue tint, or change to blue needles and put brighter bulbs in.

Even the colored glass ones fade after awhile. I bought some for my truck because I got fed up with the fading painted ones. The colored glass ones last a lot longer but in the end fade to green. EDIT- Nevermind, found the info I need.

If I were to put the single or four led wedge bulbs, said to be replacements for the 194s or 168s in my dash, would it need any more power? I don't want a bunch of LEDs to drain my battery.

How many members does it take to change a light bulb....lol

My buddy found a sheet of that plastic that is over the turn signals in blue and over layed each light bulb in his dash. It looks OK but it really dimmed the lights down and kinda clashes with the orange on the gauges. Maybe white gauge would look better with the blue.

On my car I opened up the stock holes and dropped some Auto meters in. It look nice and is usually the first thing people complement me on.

yea, white face guages have been a sign of RWD domestic performance since the late 80's... R1cers took it from us to give them the look of fast.... as with most of them... all show, no go
go look at the berger camaro.. .tell me that is a r1cer... 380hp, the only r1ice you see is in the rear view mirror...

i'd like to see some overlays for a 1985 trans am with an 85 mph spedo and 6 grand tach . i hardly ever see overlays for this.

hey, your voltage guage is crooked.. i am getting the cool overlay from www.procarparts.com when you instal them do you have to change the lights in them or what i don't exactly get how you make them blue when your dash lights are orange

it all depends on what color of light bulb you have in behind the gauges themselves is what color that the gauge lights (orange) tend to be. anyone ever wonder why GM made the gauges orange in the first place?

actually, even the blue or white LEDs draw around 50mA, which isn't much at all, probably not much more than a 194/168 bulb. and the 3000MCD LED's probably give off a lot more light too.

Not at all. The power drain is the same, sometimes even less, than the bulbs that are already in your car.

and actually, i haven't looked much at 4xLED bulbs (they would just have 4x the current drain of an LED, so 4x 20-50 = 80-200mA, which still isn't much). but my point was that 1 LED is equivalent to some small lightbulbs, especially the 3000MCD blue/white/red ones (3000+ MCD is usually what they use in LED flashlights to give you some context. you can probably get a red one that bright from radio shack for like $2, and blue/white ones seem brighter to the eye than red ones of the same rating)

i got those new led lights that look like the ones on semi's (but obviously smaller) and i put them in place of the bulbs in my taillights and they didnt look at all different. the only difference was they didnt light up as much.

Here is a pic of my gauges. I used white led's for the lighting and used 2 red led's to make the tach needle red. I think making the needles different colors is pretty easy, all i used were the leds, a dremel, and black tape.
