People who own 17 inch American Racing Torq Thrust II's.....come on in!

Hey Fella's....

I'm about to buy a set of wheels for my 91 Z28.....I'm wanting to get a set of the American Racing Torq Thrust II's....17x8 in the front and 17X9.5 in the rear. My question is...did you guys have to buy wheel spacers or anything to mount these? Have any problems with them at all...as far as wheel gap goes? I really don't want to buy anyting extra...if I do...I'll probably just go with a set of the 16's. But...I'd really like to get a set of 17's.....so..any help/comments....would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys!

You won't have to buy spacers or adapters for these rims. AR makes a perfect fit. Mine fit like a dream...

I had 7x8 TT2 wheels on my last 91z28 and didnt need spacers. I wanted the 9 1/2" wide ones but there was and extra $100 charge per wheels for them and they where a special order item. Im sure AR has the 17x9 1/2 now in the right backspacing. They also have them in chrome now too

I've got 17x9.5" all around on mine, with 5.5" backspacing in the back and 5.25" up front - fits like a glove with no spacers!

Those rims are sweet. If you decide to go bigger or end up needing spacers or adapters for any reason this should help you out.

Thanks for all of the info guys! I think I'm set on a set of the 17X9.5 Torw Thrust II's then! So....did any of you guys lower your cars? If you did...how much? I was thinkin about maybe getting a set of the Eibach ProKit...about a 1 inch drop.....

Does these wheels only come in chrome? I'm much more a fan of titanium/steel (I think that is the term) colored wheels.

Mr. Jordan, your car looks great. I love the yellow.

I saw a blue 3th gen Camaro with 16" TT2's. All I can say is you won't be disappointed!!

Hey ChevyKen...

What size of tires do you end up having mounted on your 17 inch Torq Thrust II's?

Where did you get/order your rims? I talked to both Summit Racing and Jegs and they said that a 5.5" backspacing is not available on the TT-IIs. Were they special ordered?

I am ready to order my wheels and tires. Any info you can spare would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

9T1 Z-28,
Sent you an email as well - but to answer the question:

I ordered mine from www.hotrodsusa.com (great to work with!)
The rims were (are?) special order so it took 6 weeks for ARE to make them and ship them to me. At the time when I bought my rims (ordered april 2001) there was an extra $50/rim for special order.
The wait and the extra $200 was worth it to me to get the rims with a perfect fit.

Thanks a ton for the info! Wow, just $50 extra for special order? Man, that's well worth it considering adapters run somewhere around $80 each! I will give them a yell. Thanks again!

I have 16x8 TT II's, 245/50r16 tires, and a 1 inch drop at all four corners. I like the way the 16" rims look since they leave about 1/2 and inch of wheel well showing. I personally think our cars are better suited to 16 inch wheels, but that's just an opinion and it doesn't mean that 17 inch doesn't look good. The 16's rub a tiny bit in the front, so I'm surprised that 17's with larger tires don't pose a problem.

Sorry, I don't have pictures.

I'm looking to get this exact setup. What backspacing did you use for these wheels (particularly the rears)? Did you use any spacers? I'm also gonna lower my car with the Eibach Pro-Kit, is your car lowered? If so did you need to make any modifications for the rears? Thanks, this help will be greatly appreciated.

Here is a pic at full drop:

17X9.5 fr with 5.5 BS
17X11 rr with 6.0 BS

The rear needs a little "massaging" with a BFH.

The only thing I can think BFH means is Big F'n Hammer. Please tell me there's a better way.

Well if you measure the distance from the lip of the fender, to the fender well & frame, there isn't much room in there. And yes, you are correct about the BFH!
