Help with wheels..

I'm going to get new wheels and tires soon and I'm not sure if I want to get the Pro Star XP or the TT2s... Looking to get the set in 18" keeping the fronts as wide as stock, and as wide as I can in back. Any one know the widest you can go with 18"s?

hmm...I didn't know they made either of those wheels in 18"...anyway, I would go with the pro star xp's. with 18's, you could probably fit a 9 inch rim in the back, but someone who knows for sure would have to confirm that for you. another thing to help determine what'll fit is if your car is lowered or if you plan to lower it.

understand your drop won't look as intense as it will with the 18's....you can't go as "wide" as possible in the back with airbags and get a real drop without some major modifications....also, the wider the front tire the less drop there as well.

if you plan on using air bags with their full intentions i'd stick to something like an 18" iroc style that has a 8" rim or at least something in that size.

it all depends on money and preference, but look at a lowered vehicle riding on 16's....17's don't make that much of a difference.

i was thinking about 8" in the fronts and somewhere around 10" -12" in the rear, i'm doing the air bags more for function then looks, so that i can jack it up in those areas where you would normaly damage parts of the car (ie. the carolinas, and other places with too steep of grades) and lower it just a little to reduce air under the car

don't take this for the wrong way but your doing it for the wrong reasons then.....

ideal wise it's great and i had thought the same thing but if those are your reasons i wouldn't go about it.

good luck with the setup!

91FIREBIRD, those are pretty nice looking but a little to "bling bling" type for my eyes

Kandied91, why wouldn't you do it? i figure if it can keep parts on my car from geting damaged i'll go for it, but maybe theres something to it i'm not seeing here...

what very little your going to keep from getting damaged your going to hurt elsewhere.

all i'm saying is that there should be alot more thought into it, i'm not against it......just do some hard research and if your still into it then go for it!

once you get into it then ask the same question so you'll have a better understanding of the situation. i could do a complete write up but it wouldn't do much good for you at this point.

one question i do have though. why do you want a really wide tire in the rear if your going to bag the car? answer this question honestly and you'll know wether or not you need to continue.

well i've always loved the look of wide tires in the rear and i figure having more rubber on the ground can't hurt right?

and i just finished looking at your pages for your car, very sweet ride

well it depends in the rear which is what your talking about you should be fine except that the wider the tire the less travel you'll have in the wheel well. if you want to lay low in the weeds i'd stick to something like a 245 or narrower.

do the measurements to find out exactly how low your wheel can tuck up in there just to be sure.

thanks for the compliment by the way. be sure to check it out in 3 weeks....if you like it now you'll really like it then.

Car: too many ...
I say you run 18x8 in the front with 4.5 backspacing and 18x9.5 in the rear with 5.5 backspacing. For tires, I would recommend 245/40/18 in front and 275/40/18 rear. This setup will work with a 1" drop. You can go lower, or go wider tires, but then you might need to start modifying your fenderwells to keep stuff from rubbing. 245 is the width of the tire. The stock tires are 16x8 with 245/50/16 tires. Keeping the front 18" rim 8" wide (with the same offset as stock) and 245 wide tires (same as stock) should not cause any rubbing issues (unless you already have rubbing issues with the stock 16's ...)

I think I have actually lost my mind, but I'm thinking about 19s for the 82.

I want that custom big rim little tire wall look, but I don't want it to look like a matchbox car either...I'm going for a spokey type rim. This car has to be daring...all the cars with 18s I have seen on here look too much like my 17s. Maybe it because there is not much lowering. Hey CrazyHawaiian can you post a shot of you 18s in a direct side shot.

Oh and why the diffence in the front and rear wheel offset? Is that a camaro thing? I know birds have a bit different rear quarter. Here is what my car looks like with the offset the spacer/adapter gave me. The funny thing is that they are all the same. There is no difference front to rear in them or the rims. I like where this puts my stance. It definately wider then stock. I wanted to duplicate this stance. The side of the tires are about even with the outer lip on the cars wheel well.

Here is a rear shot...you can sort of see what I mean. I really have not shot my stance on film for the web yet...

Here is another shot of it from the front. The front tire is turned slightly out though.

See what bugs me a bit about our cars...Ok check the pic below. See how I have a nice space on the top of the tire, but you get to the sides and the gap is wider. This bugs me. I want a nice even gap...like the fender was made for the rim and tire. I just wonder if getting the diameter enough to fill up the side gap will make the whole car rise up too much and look matchbox like???

would 18x9.5 in the rear with 6" backspacing work? if not, would a spacer make it work? and are there any problems using spacers? right now i'm looking at the Pro Star XPs and they have a 18x9.5 but it has 6" backspacing, thats why i ask..

Rage 13: Thanks!

As far as spacers...I have adapter/spacers. The ones I have had to change the lug pattern form 5 to 4. Anyway, as long as the are billet aluminum, I don't think you will have any problems. If the spacers do not have to change the lug pattern, they are usually one piece & they are made like a rim. They have lug holes that match your lug pattern. You mount the spacer and built in are new studs to mount your rim too. They are however thick you need to make the rims sit where you want. This style is as strong as a rim.

Don't get me wrong here...the TT2 is a great looking wheel, but ask yourself this: do you want to spend all that $$$ to have the exact same setup as half the people on this board with newer aftermarket rims? Go to a car show, and if you didn't know any better you'd think half the musclecars and street rods ever built came with them! Again, they look awesome, but personally I'd go for the Welds.
