My hinges are amazingly bolted to the car and the door. The doors have obviously been replaced.

Well I know there have been several posts about this type of door hinge conversion over the course of the past few months, and I stumbled across a kit on eBay today that some of you might be interested in. The price seems like it could maybe actually be a legitimate item, but it's not so absolutely astronomical that it's out of reach for someone who really wants to do the conversion. Here's the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6783

Personally it's not something I'd want to do, but I figured I'd pass it along since I found it!

I dont think its all the difficult but its not something you want to do to you daily driver thats for sure. The only way I see how to do it is just like that mustang, have the doors come out then up. Only problem I see is how to get the doors to lacth correctly and lock.

I cant say i havent thought about doing this, i saw somewhere where a company was selling kits that fit most american autos, for about $152.00, though mostly designed for trucks i dont see why you couldnt alter the hinges and locks to work. If you give it some thought you can buy fiberglass doors and shed lots of weight. but i'd buy the glass doors to shed weight only for drag racing. Personaly i like having metal doors-but thats just me.

What about Gullwing doors? other then having to reinforce the roof and the structures that support it, that would be kinda cool-or different.
I dont have any problems getting in/out of my camaro with the way the doors open now, with the exception im 6'-3" tall and i must relocate the driverseat back another 4-6" so my knees arent hitting the dash. What head room?

I'm sure this was discussed earlier, but just so that we don't get into a cyclical debate: there is no window frame, which would be needed for gull wing doors.

So, kidrcth, how's the vertical doors coming?

well lambo doors IMO are going good. The people inposted about before, http://www.cardoorcustoms.com have started the hinge production fro our cars. They had gotten a 67 Iroc, modeled after the ngith rider theme, to go for their demo for the f-body. They have almost completed their video for me and the night rider is almost complete, as soon as it is they are gonan give me the photos. I do keep in contact with these people and they rpolly know i'm gonna email them everyday.

Trust me as soon as every bit of it is done i'll post ot to prove you guys. They are actually nice people and i've tlaked to a few people that won their ebay actions, one got his product 5 days ago and bolted it on perfectly(needed to drill two holes but thats it). It was for a 91 Mustang Though.

With me being a knight rider fan I am just kind of curious as to how they are using an 87 Iroc for knight rider since the car was a firebird and not a camaro. I am doing a Knight rider conversion and was trying to get them to sponsor me for our style cars but was too late. I would love to see the pics of this as well.

i say go for it...personally i think the up and out design like the above picture is a better idea overall for getting in and out but either way would be cool. i personally think this idea best suits the lamborghini as it's designed a certain way to allow alot more clearance. the doors on a thirdgen are twice the height of a lambo making access that much harder and it's a pita getting out of the lamborghini, especially in a suit or otherwise. for show purposes or a toy though i say go for it, i'd love to see it.

you can see here how much more room there is that wouldn't be possible with thirdgens. the bmw on their site gives a good idea of how much room you would have to get in and out.....not fun, but looks cool!

Me too.

Kid, my suggestion to you is: If you still havn't got any where on your car by the first of May......... you might want to think about getting really good at photoshop. When you tell somebody (especially a bunch of third gen enthusiasts) you are going to do something you better do it, or prepare to get flamed. Just lookin out for my fellow Floridian.

been awhile since I have researched any of this but I found a kit that looks a lil more promising it can lift 300lbs so our doors would not be a problem and it has a full 90 Degre lift so more room to get out of the car, here is the link check it out http://www.aerokits.net/DiabloHinge/gtf.htm

With the windows up, do the doors pop out alittle to clear the weatherstriping when you open them?

sorry car is not done yet and I acctually haven't had to try that yet. I still have to buy weather stripping. But I clearanced everything with a LOT of space. The doors go out and then up. Its not the weatherstripping you have to worry about. It is the A-pillar itself. There are very easy adjusters that let you adjust everything. It really isn't that hard. It is great that the doors dont have to go up so that in a sketchy place you don't have to call attention to yourself. Or if you just don't want to go through the motion for a candybar at drugstore. Quick in and out. Anyways, if you have any other Qs just ask. you can see how I installed them on my site. Check it out. There are a bunch of other cool things on there too. They are def a sight to see when both up. I am thinking of a reverse hood to go along with the crazy doors.

trial fitted one of them. The doors will not go 90* up with the fenders on unless you notch the top a bit. But 80+* is fine with me.

yes. You can adjust everything.

-How far the door opens out
-how vertical they go
-how the door sits so it will line up with the stiker.

All with just 2 hex head tools. Take 20 seconds to adjust anything.
