Seriously guys, the amount he has invested is well spent. Think about it, he has about $7000 in parts and roughly $3000 in labor. Do you have any idea how much labor is involved in this project? I just wish I could find someone who would only charge me $30 an hour for labor in Birmingham! Most performacnce shops are charging $65 to $70 an hour (rediculous)!

Actually yes I do know what is involved very much so. I've got 2 auto to six speed swaps under my blet. The hardest tthing is drilling the holes for the clutch master cylender and getting the u-bolt in for it. Other than that. It isnt that hard. ESPECIALLY!!!! If ya get eth spohn torque arm..

A engine swap in a engine swap. I've done everything from swapping a 350 to a 3.8 turbo to a 406. I think I know what I'm talking about!.

For what 1991 Z-28 is getting, its not at all unreasonable. Can a faster car be built cheaper? Sure, if you do it all yourself. From the sound of it, hes not trying to build a street racer out of it, he wants a good performing car that can be driven and enjoyed daily. A new 4th gen cost over $23k, and runs 13s too...

Yea exactly, I mean the car should last for a long time right? Mabye not in the snow...but anyways what kind of new car can you get for $15 k? A Dodge Neon? Ford focus? Ill take the camaro anyday.

Can't get much less than $30/hr, the $3k was to cover the exhaust and any other misc parts like plugs, oil, etc. So most likely this isn't even gonna cost $9k total.

took the words out of my mouth,

in fact i called about 400 freaking transmission shops and web sites and any kinda shop i could find and after about 399 of them laughing at me for wanting to swap a auto to a t56 because of how expensive it would be, thirdgenresource.com said ok well do it for 30$ an hour.... and anything else you want done, thats pretty damn good to me seeing as how i cant do any of this work myself

Be sure to keep all the parts he swapped out too. You can sell them off and use the $$ to buy some SFC's and some other stuff. You're car will be nice man, no doubt about that. It will have alot of power. Be sure to practice launching alone before you go race those guys. I would have done the buildup differently, but the only thing that matters is that you're happy in the end. And it sounds like you are! Enjoy the car!!

don't worry, i'll give him some pointers for launching His only competition will be me, the other two won't even come close, no matter how bad he launchs. The WRX is bone stock and the altima has basic bolt ons. Hey Crazy, i love the supercharger setup you got. Its freakin sweet. I can't wait to install mine in 3 weeks.

the tpi setup on his motor is going with the motor. we figured it would make it easy to sell the motor with the tpi on it.

Hey man 10k isn't bad for everything installed. The average shop rate here is $65/hr. I ran into some kid at my work who dropped $6k on a POS 200sx turbo, and everything else to make it kinda work. "It should run low 12's" he says. Yeah sure; for how long? I especially like the sawzall treatment on the front fenders to fit the slicks on a wrong wheel drive car.
Anyway bad car man, I wish I had the funds to get mine together as well as yours is planned. All in due time I guess.

lol wrong wheel drive car.....

yeah it took me 2 years of pretty much saving extra money to do it all i hope its worth it, yeah thats what im told like 60-90 $ an hour on average and mine was 30$ an hour so im happy

UPDATE:

1. I just ordered a stock 4th gen rear off a 98 Z, complete with brakes

2. Just ordered Spohn Sub frame connectors!!

they are being sent to thirdgenresource.com and being installed next week before i pick it up,

i decieded i am going to nee dthose things asap i might as well just send them to him and he can install them, so i put up a little more money ...

plus i will have 4 wheel disc brakes now which is awesome
and i dont need my rear spacers for the vette rims!!!

if anyone wants a pair of barely used 1.75" spacers let me know

Anywhere from $100-400.
I paid $250 for the one that is on my car without brakes.
I got an LT1 rear brake kit from Speed Automotive for $100. Came with all the brackets, calipers, and rotors.

If you do have to go with spacers, get 4 spacers made for the front, makes it easier to sell the 2 off of the rear when you eventually get the 4th gen rear. That is what I did.
I actually sold my rear ones twice. Once to a friend on his 91, then another friend bought that 91 and traded me the wheels and spacers for some 3rd gen wheels, and I sold the spacers again.

yeah im basically ****ed for emissions i dont know what to do, gonna bring a couple hundred dollar bills with me to emissions and start passin em around see where it gets me lol, any ideas?

Does the loudmouth use a muffler?

2 years ago for emissions after I failed 4 times, I applied for an extension,haven't heard back from them. They dont bother me,Iwon't bother them

Forge an emissions certificate saying you passed, and lay low with the police....

Although i have never seen one before so i wouldn't know...

3 days and no pics??......

the loudmouth system has a resonator/wanna be muffler. its the size of a dynomax bullet muffler and thats all the system has.

just a question and not meant to be a flame at all.but why didnt you do the work yourself?10 g's is ALOT to pay for work you coulda done yourself for a buttload cheaper.and you coulda learned a whoooole lot about your thirdgen and had a bunch of fun in the process.i only wish i had 10 g's to dump into my car.
nice car man hope to see it in person sometime.

true thats what i was thinkin.i was just curious though.a garage isnt typically NEEDED,but very nice to have.i have a garage,but its being blocked by our damn boat,and by the trailer alone while the boats in the water.hopefully this year my stupid dad will do something with the trailer so i can use the garage when it comes time to do the top end rebuild on the 305.if not,i got a tarp if i cant finish it on a nice weekend.in which that case i will kick myself in the face anyways for not being able to do heads,cam,manifold/carb swap,and headers in a weekend.:lala:

If being too loud is what you are worried about regarding emissions, there is a trick you can do. Just drill a vertical hole in each tailpipe, about a foot from the end of the tailpipe. Then stuff steel wool into ech tailpipe just past the two holes you drilled. Once the steel wool is past the hole, drop a nail or screw from the top in order to keep the wool from blowing out. I would advise you to not stuff the wool in the pipe until you are getting ready to take it in to get checked. I did this on my 68 camaro that I had because I failed emissions for being too loud, work perfectly

I didnt PAY 10 grand to get the work done,
it ended up being more like 11 grand, and only like 2 grand was for labor, there is also alot more stuff i did and put on, then mentioned in the list at the top of this thread... it was a good deal, yes it would of been cool to do myself , my friend alex (derfrank) on the boards could helpedme out in that situation, but its alot of crap, and i have another car and im in school i dont have time for that, but its all done and over with now...


as for emissions, im not worried about it being to loud, which it definetly is anyways lol, but someone just PMed me from MD said his friend lowered his car to the point where they couldnt fit it on the rollers and they waivered him for 5 years, thats what im looking into now, doesnt sound likea bad idea, specially if the guy is from baltimore likeme and has a thirdgen, im gonna go with this guy

a problem is my headers are literally an inch, inch and a half off the freakin ground, one is already banged up bad... hooker long tubes are probably not the best way to go..... so if i wanna lower my car, the headers will be resting on the ground , i need to figure somethin out
