Said it before, sayin it again, love the work

To everyone else: watch downloading these programs, especially advertising the fact that you do, If you download Adobe photoshop, Illustrator, and Go Live! you have racked up $1,000 worth of theft. Im not saying its rite or wrong, or if I do it or not. But if you got caught, these are big expensive programs that the pro's use. Get caught, you'll get nailed hard.

on the other hand. Being big programs that the pro's use they arent that easy to use. Its no MS Paint. I allready know a lot about these programs but I am also in school rite now for Visual Communications, we spend 3 months on Photoshop and illustrator and still dont learn all of each program. So if you get the program try and do what you can, they are amazing programs and between illustrator, photoshop and another for page layout called Quark Xpress you can design just about anything you see from a cerial box to these drawings you see here. HAVE FUN!

Ok, for the person who asked about affecting the picture, you really can't change the image in illustrator, like you can photoshop. Basically what I do is take a real photo and import it into Illustrator, then I lock the layer and trace over it. And yes, for most amateurs, the traces will look "cartoony" to some degree. However, I hacked into a Dodge website and downloaded an illustration of a Dodge Viper and YOU WOULD SWEAR its a photograph. It is that good. I've done some drawings that look like photos from far away. I would upload the image but it is far too big.

Also, as far as anyone interested in Illustrator, you MUST learn the pen tool to even be successful. I, myself, hated it for the longest time, but once I mastered it, IT HAS CHANGED MY GRAPHIC CAREER! It is such a great tool.

Also, if anyone out there is a graphic student like me, you can get some great deals on programs at your bookstore. For instance, I picked up a LEGAL copy of Illustrator for $99. It's normally over $300. Quark Xpress however, is still over $500. And I still hate that program.

Yup Illustrator is a great program. You can also use Flash to draw since its a vector based program as well....although Illustrator has more options if you're just doing a drawing. Obviously Flash does a lot more. I've done a few drawings with the just the mouse and I don't think anyone could necessarily do it better with the pen tool. Just that with the mouse it probably took me three times as long to complete I've bought programs at my university bookstore super cheap as well. I've bought Office 2000 for $99 also and I've bought Adobe GoLive for about the same price. They're academic versions so they sell them cheaper. I don't think they even checked my student ID when I bought them, so if you can pass as a student go to some school's bookstore and buy some cheap software..

Thanks again Steve. I think I will stick with Adobe Photoshop and just find a friend that might have Adobe Illustrator. I don't want to risk taking the chance that I get caught and have a criminal record.

Since I hand draw all of my drawings, I don't have to worry about using the pentool. I have been using photoshop since 1998. I know how to use just about every tool in the program, but a lot of them I don't use because they are not "essentially necesary." There are just too many tools and options in the program. It is a lot of fun using them though.

That looks good Steve, it could use a couple line creases in the front, but other than that it looks great. I don't know how you know were to put light reflections on the car. I can do it if I am looking at a picture, but most of the time the car I started out with is so different that reflections would not work the same way.

Thanks for the kind words. I know it's a rough copy, I still have to put the line for the hood, fix dimensions, tires, etc. I've been a traditional illustrator for the 19 years I've been on this planet, so concepts like lighting naturally transfer over to the computer.
