Classic/Collectors tags insurance rates

Its to late to call my insurance agent and ask

I might be getting my sisters 88 Ford Temp beater to drive as a daily drive so I can take my car out of "Daily Driver" status finally.

If I do I would get collectors or classic tags on it so that I have perm. registration and dont need emmisions any longer.

Does anyone know about what allstate (or any others) charge to insure cars that are classic or collectors.

to better clarify, I mean on my car, not the Tempo

I know it was obvious, but the question kinda sounded like I mean the tempo.

I had show car insurance on my Formula through Allstate, was about $44 a month for $20,000 worth of coverage. Also, with that insurance, got a waiver to be exempt from emissions testing.

The application and "Fact Sheet" dont have a milage on them, they just say it is allowed to be used for "Pleasure Driving" then it says pleasure driving is defined as 1 day a week.

im sure your allowed more, like 2 or 3 days in the summer maybe, and I know your allowed to drive for car shows, weddings, etc. so if there is something like the thirdgen nats, you could drive it to there for a weekend or something

I believe the car has to be a certain age for that status, like 20 or 25 yrs. And through my fathers insurance, for his 69 pick up, i believe it is like 500 miles a year! That is not a lot at all. Could be different, and i am sure it is, through diferent companies. I'll find out more when i can. good luck

my dads 68 torino gt 390 was appraised and 15,500 and he told me today that it was around 195 for the year to insure it. the only draw back is that u can only drive a collectors car insured like that for a limited amount of miles. he said his is around 2000miles a year

PA DMV Info.

Quote from the Pennsylvania DMV fact sheet.
DEFINITION OF ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC MOTOR VEHICLES
Antique Motor Vehicle - A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured more than 25 years prior to the
current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformance with
manufacturer specifications.
Classic Motor Vehicle - A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured at least 15 years prior to the current
year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformity with manufacturer
specifications and appearance. Any classic motor vehicle registered under Section 1340 (relating to antique, classic and
collectible plates) on the effective date of the amendment to this definition which fails to qualify as a classic motor vehicle
pursuant to these provisions may retain such classic registration unless another type of registration is applied for and
issued for the vehicle.
USE OF ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC REGISTRATION PLATES
The use of antique and classic plates is governed by Section 1340 of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code which states: “It is
unlawful for any person to operate a motorcycle or vehicle with antique and classic registration plates for general daily
transportation. Permitted use shall be limited to participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, occasional
transportation and similar uses”. Occasional transportation and similar uses is defined as one day a week.
NOTE: Antique and Classic plates are not available for motorized pedalcycles.
EXPIRATION OF ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC REGISTRATION PLATES
Antique and classic registration plates are permanent and are issued for the life of the vehicle while it is owned by the
present owner. If the present owner sells the vehicle, the plate remains with the seller/owner and may be used on another
qualified vehicle, provided the proper $75.00 registration and $22.50 title fees are paid. However, if ownership is
transferred between spouses, or between parent and child, the original plate may be transferred in the usual manner with
a $22.50 title fee and $6.00 transfer fee.
If the owner sells the vehicle and wants to give the new owner the registration plate, the seller must write a letter of release
for the plate and give it to the new owner. The new owner should forward the letter to PENNDOT, along with all appropriate
documents and fees when applying for title and registration of the vehicle. The new owner must pay the full registration fee
of $75.00 in order to use the plate. The $6.00 transfer fee is not needed in this case.
APPLICATION FOR ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC REGISTRATION PLATES
A. The following forms are necessary for the processing of antique and classic registration plates:
1. Certificate of Title (MV-4) and Vehicle Sales and Use Tax Return/Application for Registration (MV-4ST) or out-ofstate
title and Application for Certificate of Title (MV-1) are required to be submitted when the vehicle is being
transferred to a new owner and the new owner is making application for an antique or classic plate. NOTE: When
a vehicle is already properly titled in the owner’s name, and the owner is making application for an antique or
classic plate, only the vehicle’s certificate of title (MV-4) is required to be submitted along with the MV-11
application and photographs.

So, you going through with it? IMO, it wouldn't be worth it to me. I know, during the summer, there would just be more than one day a week where i would want to drive my car. My car is not to that point yet to be put away all year long. Good luck with your decision, whatever you decide to do! Later
