Center cap theft?

Has anyone here found a good way to secure these damn wheel center caps so that your average sticky fingered A$$hole can't just yank them off?? I just got a new set of 4 caps cause somebody did exactly that with 2 of the 4 caps I had on there when I got the car, and I want to keep this set where it belongs - on my wheels. I don't have the cash to keep buying new sets of caps each time one gets jacked. I know I could superglue them on, but I want to be able to get them off without breaking them.

I was thinking if I drilled very small holes right at the center of the wheels thru the rim and the center of one (or more) of the little tabs that holds the cap on, I could thread a very small brass screw thru there to hold it in place. That way, you'd need a screwdriver to pull it off, so the average random thief couldn't get them off unless they happened to have a screwdriver with them - or they broke the tab on the cap. Or, drill a tiny hole in the cap near where it meets the wheel and run a thin steel line through there, loop it around one of the wheel studs, and hold it on with a lug nut? Does anyone think these ideas will work? Or have any other ideas? I'm open to suggestions!

I think a while ago someone mentioned putting a thin bead of silicone on the inside of the cap. You can still work it off but the average theif will think it won't come off.

lol.......want to all laugh.....i had the same prob...got new ones....and someone yanked em off.....lol....well...i got pi$$ed....so....lol......so i plastic epoxied them right to the rim itself...lol.....aint coming off now i can tell you that much. But im sure that if you wanted to take them off...you could try drilling a whole into the metal tab prongs that hold the cap to the rim and put a screw or bolt......that way it will act like kind of a stopping device. Im sure that would work.

i can tell you how to reduce centercap theft...

i have 2 ways:

first is put a bomb inside the centercap... the second somebody takes it off... BOOM! hehe

the other:

cover the centercap in non-drying crazyglue... that way when you come back to your car you can act like you don't notice the crook's hand is superglued to your car and just drive off... dragging him with you...

I used the silicone. To get them off i take a large adjustable and twist to break the silicone. Still have all 4 .. (Knock on wood)

That might be cool if you made a "paint bomb" that way when they take off the cap they get sprayed with nasty syrup based paint.
I have not had my center cap stolen but I had 1, yes 1, lug nut cover stolen
I hate stupid kids.

I used Quik Steel on mine.... this putty that supposedly dries hard as steel. Seems to have worked, none have fallen off or been stolen (knocks on wooden desk).

Just out of curiosity... for what reason would you want to be able to get them off?

You want to be able to take off the center caps so that you can balance the tires and wheels when you buy new tires.

i dont really think there is much that you can do about it. if theres a thief that wants the center cap, hes going to get it one way or another... and if theres someone goin out just to find one and take it im sure he would bring the tools needed to make sure he gets it

I don't have centercaps on my GTA wheels. I would like some, but I know they will end up missing. At one time I had two centercaps. One day I put the two on the rear wheels and went for a drive, and when I came back - they were gone.

I wish GM made the centercaps that screw on like the lug threads. No lug thread has ever been missing or stolen.
