Camaro on Autotrader, shoudl i get?

there is a 92 z28 , manual with t-tops on autotrader
and i went to visit it, and it is an absolute peice of crap! i mean like the worst shape camaro ive ever seen on the inside.

The front bumper is a mess, the interior is all sorts of messed up, the door panels are falling apart, the door locks are popping out of the door panels, no headliner, seats are disgusting messed up
as for the outside, the body was sort of straight, the back 2 taillights were not of a 92 z28???? they were of like an 85 style and they were all like bubbled out from the sun , they were horrible? im trying to figure out maybe what happend with this car....

i test drove it and it ran kinda like crap, made a weird sound when i put it in reverse, why would the tailights be different? they obviously had to put those on there but why would u do it, the car has 130k miles on it which is alot but heres the deal...

Its selling for very cheap, i may be able to buy it for like 3500$

I have like a MINT 91z28, but i am about to put a zz4 in it and 6 speed

do you think it is a good idea to buy this pos and just hook it up? if i but it for like 3500 i will have like 4 thousand dollars extra to spend on hooking it up that could be a brand new paint job and interior.... since im already going to put a brand new zz4 engine and 6 speed tranny in it.... so what im asking is

what other things on the car would have to be replaced you think? if im doing the engine and tranny and interior all new, what other things go wrong in a car? ill need to buy new front bumper and new taillights... but paint job and thats it, what else?
thanks for reading if u did heh

PS: the picture is decieving

If you say it looks like crap, then why pay $3500 for it? You're the one who checked it out, and based upon what you said, I wouldn't pay much more than $2500 for it.

Might have to look harder to find other little things wrong with it, that might nickle and dime you to death.

Just my $.02

3500$ is not cheap for that piece of **** car you just discribed.

I paid 2200$ for my IROC with rebuilt motor, tranny, and in excellent conidition and the car turned a 14. at the track.

Car doesn't even seem like its worth the effort. Hold out for better and greater things.

For a car that's ten years old and has such obvious issues, $3,500 is out of the question. If you're dropping in a new engine and tranny, you should look for a car that has everything else in good condition. Why spend $3,500 on a car that will need interior/exterior work but has a running engine/transmission, when you're already replacing the engine and transmission and can spend the same amount on a car that doesn't run but is in good condition otherwise?

nope..........

you have a "mint" 91 and your droping a zz4 in it? i would put it in the donor car before a "mint" one.

the tail lights were probably different because they are extremely expensive to buy new and very hard to find used. unless the person really cared about the car you can pick up the tail lights that your talking about for practicly nothing....i know i have 3 sets in excellent shape just because no one wants them.

that's alot of work there.........if the body was good i'd say roughly around the 1,000 mark just because it would cost you about 5,000 to get it back up to respectible specs.

i'd pass.

From what you're describing, it sounds like this car has been totally neglected. Which means, aside from the obvious stuff, there are probably tons of little problems that are not readily apparent, but will show up within the first 500 miles of you driving the car. The owner probably changed the oil once every 15,000 miles, and it's probably got the original air filter, etc., etc. And the other guys are right - $3500 for this POS is ridiculous. Having never seen the car myself, I can't really put a value on it - but by your description, it sounds like it needs a lot of work and parts. Then the "cheap $3500 car" turns into a "not-worth-it $7500 car." If I were you, I'd pass on this one and get something nicer.

There is a saying when buying cars
"If in doubt, walk away". There are loads of others out there. You are very much in doubt about this car, otherwise you wouldn't be asking!!
Leave it!

I paid the equivalent of $500 for a 1991 RS in the UK with no engine, no trans, no prop, no interior, no wheels and tyres, nicked ECM and a crappy paint job. I thought I could do it for another $3000 and 6 months. Ha! $6500 later and 9 months, it is still not finished! Just the paint job to go now though.
After saying all this, it has been damn enjoyable!! A fool and his money!

Andy.

Thats way to much, I have (had) two 1991 350 Z/28's for sale. The first one is a black 350 Z/28 loaded, needs nothing with just over a hundred. I just sold it as a dealer for 4,300

The secound I just took in on trade for an Iroc-z. This one is a 91 350 Z/28, loaded, straight body but needs paint to look great, front spoiler cracked, dirty interior, normal riped seat. needs some detail work, but every thing works and it blisters the tires, sold for 2,700

I have a deposit on the black Z/28, its leaving tomarrow for Kansas and the white z/28 I don't have the deposit yet

We are located in NY, not that far of a drive and even shorter when looking at Fbodies.

Check out Signature and pic of the Black 91 z

I don't know if I would spend that much on that car and then turn around and spend about the same amount on fixing it up. If you are worried about what else might go wrong make an appointment with a mechanic and have them check it out before you buy it. I know in Ohio most mech. charge like $50 just to check it out. I would do that before I put $3,500 in to a car that might blow up on the way home. Just my opinion. Try and talk them down. Good Luck.

well obviously i would be and idiot to even consider the car, thanks for your responses guys, i just figured that if i bought it for 3500 i would have alot of money to hook it up , but the problem is i would be payign for most of its "issues" that it comes with, its just so hard to find a 91-92 z28 with t-tops and with manual, but the plan still is this winter to make mine a 6 speed and put in a zz4, its just going to be more money then i have, thought if i bought a cheaper pos, i could do it all, but not a good idea

$3500 is a lot of bones for a car that is in need, I paid $1700 for mine pretty much the way it is minus the 350.

If you've got that kind of money to spend on a car, you should be able to find one with very little wrong with it. I would think that $3500 could get you a pretty decent 3rd Gen. I paid $1100 for my '83 T/A, which was rust free, had brand new Bridgestone Potenza tires, straight body, clean interior, and very minor problems....nothing needing immediate attention. Keep looking...

For $3500 you could buy a great thirdgen, or better yet a car that is reliable and less of a gas hog. Something for getting from point a to point b while you "hook up" your mint car. Although, my car was pretty damn mint and i did what i did to it! If i could do it over i would find a car with a straight body and build it up from there! I say offer the guy $1250 cash if you really want it then just work on it. Your budget is $7k, right? You could have a pretty damn fast sleeper. just another thought

Told ya, your car is in way too nice shape to trade for that POS. the 5sp thing is out the question now since you found an installer for that. This 1991 Z28 POS car is so rare according to the seller, it doesn't even have rear disc brakes.

Blasphemy! Hey, don't forget where you're at- this isn't ReliableHonda.org. Then again, I drive an Isuzu Rodeo to work everyday. Uh, never mind. Forget I said that part...
