neither if possible.............try some other products out there as there are better results.
i personally like wizards; picked up at most professional body shops and works really well. doesn't haze as much which is a plus. mothers tends to fill in pores to easily as well as haze which makes for more work.

check the tech articles section. It's alot of sanding and buffing to get it to look like that. No polish will EVER make a stock plenum look like that.

I used Mother Aluminum Polish on my plenum and runners....and I'm very happy with how it turned out. In order to get a mirror like finish....you HAVE to sand the "cast" look out of it though. If you just use the mothers polish on the plenum without sanding.....it won't do much at all......
This is how mine turned out with Mothers on my 1991 Z28 5.7 L98...I would really like to try the stuff what Kandied91Z was talking about too......

no replacement for serious elbow work..........
but polish compound can make all the difference. i actually go over it with a thick grade and then some finer elements like jewelers rouge and then a chrome polish to seal it.
time consuming yes; but the shine will be brighter and last longer this way which means less detailing time!

well i know the stuff i use is made by wizards and you can either pick it up on the internet or just about every major body shop that does good work around here keeps some in stock.
i use a heavy grit paint polish to start then go over with their metal polish and finish up with a chrome polish or if i'm out i use a finish coat of one of my paint polishes. either wizards or zaino.
looks and works great.

white rough is the best polishing compound for aluminum. I do this for a job, I know. do the sanding, white rough, then a LITTLE aluminum polish. thats is your best bet.

If you go to sears they sell a kit, it has 3 buffing wheels and a bit to mount them to a drill, i also comes with 4 type of polishing compoung, not a bad deal, i think its like 20-25 bux. after you get all the rough stuff and are ready for a cream polisher, give the blue magic metal polish a shot, it has silicone in it to protect, and give a good luster.

I polished my setup a while ago. I sanded the casting off with a belt sander the second time I did it, that made it alot faster. Then i worked my way up to 1000 grit sandpaper. After I got to that point, I whipped out the polishing wheel. Started with 'emory', then used 'tripoli' and then a 'white rouge'. You can go even farther with a 'jewlers rouge' but to me it's not really that much better. After the white rouge I polished with Mother's aluminum polish and it shined like chrome.
