Patching rim gouges

I would like to get around to polishing the "first gen" IROC rims (mine were sold off of the car by the previous owner, trust me, it is an IROC, it's just got lovely GOLD Z28 rims ) that I picked up from a wrecking yard, however, they have a few gouges from where the previous owner curbed it when he got into the accident that wrote off his car. Nothing too major, however, they are noticeable from close up and I want to get rid of them. I got these rims for a decent price, and I know that this can be done by a professional for about $300 a set, however, if I can at least prep the rims or maybe even do it myself, and one of you guys can tell me what's involved, I will be forever in your debt!
