T-Top rust

I'm sure that all have you have seen the t-top rust that accurs on the black metal bar that runs between the t-tops. Mine has rust on the black bar along where the weatherstripping runs along the top. How can one fix that? Could i take it off, wire brush it and repaint it? Or should i just get a new one in better condition? I have seen some on eBay for $50-60, but I'd rather not pay that much for one if I don't have to. Any suggestions that have worked for others? Or does anyone have one they will sell to me for a good price?

I would go to a bone yard. Usually you will be a ble to find a nice one there. Personally I would not fix the rust I would just replace.

hey,
i had the same problem with mine. i had mostly suface rust on mine but a couple spots on the lip of it were eaten through. i just took it off, sanded it down to the metal, spray painted primer on it and then painted it somewhat custom. it was easy and only cost my like 10 buck in paint rather then getting a whole new peice for a lot more. and it looks great too.

here is what it looked like before

I drilled out the rivets, and split the whole thing apart. If I remember correctly, I had to split some welds apart from underneath. Then grit blasted, painted with weld thru primer, spot welded back together and then top lip rivetted back on. Satin black later and done.
I will see if I can find some pictures later. I did this about 5 years ago, so excuse the finer points!

Hey man how did you manage to rivet it back together. I'm screwing right now as my rivet gun nose is too wide to fit in to rivet it back!
