Side molding..really important on appareance

Yeah the side molding plays a big role in the importance of the car look.
I have studied for so long the thirdgen details and to me is very important ...i dont know so much about the history of this but i guess untill 1989 it came on black on base cars and for formulas and t/as was body colored.
i think when its black it gives the car an aging look,i saw on the boards a nice white conv.Formula ...but with this molding in black and it gave to me the look of an 82
what you thin about this ?
i think a body colored side molding gives the car a updated look
NO TALK about no side molding cause the car losses something to me.
Opinions please

Body colored molding makes a car look less basic like on non ground effects cars. Black molding makes a car look like an entry level model. I am not too fond of the way it protrudes an inch away from the body.

the body Color Wide molding is the best it really goes with the car.

the Black thin molding and even the Thin painted molding just makes the car look cheap

my car had the Black Thin molding I toke this things off and man that car looks so much better

Matter of taste

When I repainted my car, I did not put the black moulding back on my car. I like it better that way. But only because it is a black car. A car of a different color needs moulding I think. It just depends on your tasete.

I have the molding on my car because A. There are some flaws in the apint it helps hide well. and B. I have much less fear of door dings. It is black on my black car and really blends in quite well. I think the car looks funny without it.

My molding along the doors changed from white to like a pale yellow color just within the last year. Can anyone explain that?

I took off the chrome molding with rubber insert off of my 84 Firebird when I had it painted. I never got around to putting it back on. I never put back the firebird emblems either.

Your playing with fire if you don't have door moulding. My bro put on some black strip molding and a day later we got out of his camaro and a lady pulled up next to it with a Ford Festiva and creamed his drivers side door with her door when she got out. The moulding saved his paint and a nice big dent.

I like the look with out but be careful.

Brett, usually mine changes from white to a yellowish color because of hard water. We have a water softener but it still doesn't help. So every couple of months I have to scrub the yellow off.

Hey this has nothing to do with the topic or what you said but I was checking out your avatar. That would be cool to have your car pop out on that road doing a fish tail. Do you have a vid cam or a reg cam with pix of your car. If you can get a vid or a sequence of pix of your car @ different angles to make it look Like it would be fishtailing. I would be able to put that in a .gif image so you can load it into your avatar. That would rock.

The side molding does play an important part in a cars looks for better or for worse - it's all a question of personal taste.

IMHO if it's not a daily driver and is getting resprayed anyway then probably best getting rid of it.

History lesson.

In 1985 and older, the black molding was the only style. In 86 the molding was colored (at least on the better models). In 88, the molding was changed to the 1" wide style that remained until 92.

Personally, I like the 88+ colored moldings best. I've got a set for the IROC but I haven't painted them yet. On anything except a show car, I consider them a necessity. I think the molding looks WAY better than a couple door dings.

I dont like the moldings. To me they disrupt the smoothness of the door. I prefer shaved moldings as well as shaved keyhole and handle.

That Black Maro kickazz

Yeah depends on the car ..a black car can obviusly "wear" black moldings ....yeah no moldings look good bou only on GFX cars ....
on non GFX car the absence of that molding make looks fat
or like a sharks stomach ..i think lol
a shaved all car looks simply great กกก
But the molding really can save your door ...you have to be real careful ..anyway

I'm not crazy for the 1's that aren't painted body color. But IMO, the moldings (when painted body color) give a more angular aggressive look rather than a rounded look. Like all cars have them today and the have a purpose. I also like the 82-87 smaller 1 over the 88-90.

But if you look on older cars the molding was crome. It wasn't the best looking idea. I htink it does look better without and no matter where you park in a parking lot somebody always seems to park reight nex to you!! But most door dings are rather easy to get out.

I don't like the molding but regardless, this lady would have walked away with a big dent in her friggin forehead if I had actually been there to see it. Retards like that should just be put down before they can actually breed and spread the stupidity. The way some people don't give a crap for anyone else's property just irks me to no end.

Its not the idea

But most door dings are rather easy to get out.
The idea of the molding is to take care of the doors edge
Its is not the idea to remove several dings from the door cause someone parked next to you hit your door everytime
and it happens all the time กกก
Go with moldings or be really careful is my advice

OOps i forgot กก

All the fault is not from the people from the other car..
i have several friends, girfriends, family ..who open my Birds door and everytime กก i even warn this people...watch out be careful ...
yeah ...ok ok they said ...Boom กกกกกกกกก
they hit the car or whatever is next to the door กกกก
other thing is that i got no inner handles ..
they also broke the both ,.....drivers side...a friend who sat on the car and pass side ,another stupid ...this people dont realize to open the door they have to pull the handle and push the door out .,,,Thirdgens arent like other cars like you pull the handle and the door opens alone .-.....grrrrrr
