Problems with fiberglass hoods

Do any of you with fiberglass hoods have any problems with the way they fit? I have seen some hoods that did not close right or were warped in the corners. Is there any danger of the hood flying off your at speeds over 80 mph with hood pins?

Well, most if not all of the mass-produced 'glass hoods i've seen have a little trouble getting a nice, tight fit at the front edge. Firebird hoods are the worst, because of the headlight doors. My hood is an ASCD Ram Air I that gets a little crooked around the right headlight when the weather is making a big change, but most of the time, it's OK.

If you have an ASCD or any other hood that uses the stock hinges, latches and struts, you will notice, at least on the 'Birds, that the struts actually pull the hood down for the last 6 inches or so before it closes. I've had mine above 90 a bunch of times, as well as some road course / auto-X work, and it didn't move too much.

I was racing a guy in a mustang once, a couple of years back, and his hood flipped off, smashed the crap out of that 5.0. I think there's a post somewhere back in the Street racing forum, but i'm too lazy to link to it.

Get a good piece, and you should be just fine

I hand made a fiberglass hood myself and I've been over 100 mph and it sit's there just fine with no hood pins. Just make sure your hood latches good.

We have soome fit issues in the front driver's side corner with the Suncoast RA1 hood, but most of it if not all is due to the POS Edelbrock strut tower brace that despite a lot of tweaking, still hits the hood slightly. I'm going to make a new brace sometime, after we take care of a few other more pressing projects.
