Actually its not THE last Camaro, just the last one available to the public. The very last one will be in a museum.

Just wondering...
Well I just figured everyone knew it was the last AVALIABLE one.
Wonder what type of alarm he is goig to put on his car? Better get LoJack or something or his $71,500 will be gone in 60 seconds?
Wonder what his insurance bill will be like? better have Allstate or State Farm or something?
Wonder if this car will be driven or will it become a museum piece itself?

Alarm?!? That's hilarious. You guys kill me! If someone pays over $70,000 for a $28,000 car, you can bet it won't become a daily driver that gets left in the parking lot at the mall. This car will not likely see the light of day but for the few days a year when there are significant Camaro shows. This car will be insured for the collectors car that it is, and not as a regular old Z28 (Bite my tongue, a "regular old Z28"? Is there such a thing?)

At least it went to an enthusiast and not just some regular collector. I wish they had done something with it, once he drives out of the auction its going to be completely indistinguishable from any other red Z. BTW the guy kneeling next to the car is Scott Settlemire, Camaro brand manager. He is the guy, if GM decides to build another Camaro, who is in charge of it. Luckily he is as much of a hard core Camaro guy as anyone of us. I met him a couple times, he even signed my car He told me, back in the eighties he ordered a blue Iroc with the gold stripe package. Everyone thought he was nuts, but it came out looking pretty good.

Last Camaro my ***! Its all just some kinda marketing scam. They discontinue the F-body for a while then bring them back and all of a sudden everyone wants one. So they get a **** load of money in the process. Thats just the way I see it.

At the very least, it was a red Z28. Very appropriate.
Here lies the F-body
(1967-2002)
The greatest Everyman's performance car of all time.
But it still lives on the streets of every town in America.

I was at Auburn when that car sold. It was sold as part of a charity program. Anything above the $28,000 plus sticker price went to charity. So the guy can actually write off $50,000 plus on his taxes this year. So it really is not to bad of a deal.

I think GM should have continued the F-Body lineup since not everyone can afford a Vette. The F-Bodies should have at least been discontinued when the Mustangs will stop being produced. After all, the Camaro came out as a competitor against the mustang. Anyone know about the last Trans Am?

You would think that they would do something special to the car. Make it stand out. The sad thing is that he didn't get to customize it. Pic and choice the options. And maybe add somethings that don't come from the factory, like headers. The Camaro better stay RWD, and now I guess it is time to buy stock in ford LOL This is a sad day indeed.

The funny thing about the guy paying $71,500 for a Camaro is that the car will end up being like Mark McGuire's 70th home run ball... the last, most collectable one, for a couple of years until Barry Bonds (5th Gen Camaro) arrives.
At least he can bond with the guy that owns the last '97 Thunderbird.

If it truely is the last one, I think $70,000 isn't too bad if he has the cash. I would hope he's not gonna drive it much. Thats somethin cool to pass down in the family. Imagine what it could be worth 30 years from now with 20 miles on it.

My local paper ran the same story, but in the headline they spelled Camaro with an "E"
It was spelled right in the article though... geez how hard is it to just look?

It's sad that he paid 71k for a car that's only worth $28k. I saw the last 81 Camaro off the line sell on ebay for $10k. It was rumored at the time that the 2nd gen was the end of Camaro. The Camaro will return and will return as a RWD performance model. It won't return like the Impala! This car is not distinguishable from any other Z28 like it and the fact that it's the last saleable Camaro means nothing. It's because of the hype and history of the Camaro that everyone thinks this car will have some extraordinary value someday. It's too bad that when he does drive it around the block, that he just depreciated the value from $71k to $25k
For him, it's the publicity and the prestige. 5 years from now, it won't be anything special.

As for the Firebird owners, don't take offense to the above statement. I'm saying the 'Firebird doesn't have the following', meaning in the general publics eye. The Camaro is a more well known nameplate as "bang for the buck performance". What did happen to the last saleable Firebird? Why was there no hype? I think it's because there is nobody inside Pontiac, like Chevrolet's Scott Settlemire, to help promote the car and it's existance.

I almost forgot. Another reason I don't think it will be worth what he paid is because of cars like the Miata and PT cruiser and the new Thunderbird. People paid extreme premiums to own the first one, but they aren't worth any more than any other of their models.

I think it was nice to get the hybe about the last camaro, but didn't they say that it might come back out in a few years?? Nobody has said wiether or not the FIREBIRD will come back. By the sounds of things, it will be one or the other. The other will be worth more. And the thing that make that camaro stand out is the vin number.

The F-Bodies will come back, I know it. For me, I can wait 5 years, cause its not like I could by one right now anyways. After I'm set with college and have a bit more money, it will be about the time the Camaros and Firebirds come back. I just hope it still resembles the former f-bodies and has a beefy RWD engine.
That new GTO looks ok I guess and has a beefy engine, but doesn't look anything like the oldschool ones.

Again, the Camaro will be back. It's been stated that it's on hiatus. The Firebird will not be coming back. It has never been referred to as "on hiatus" and has not even been rumored that it will return. I have heard from many that are knowledgeable inside GM's walls, that the Firebird will not be returning. These people are the same people that won't say anything about the Camaro, because they can't. These are not the friend of a friend knows somebody that works there and is designing a part that could be used on the car! They flat out said that the Firebird will not return.
