i really like the new VW color " platinum gray ", seen here on the turbo s beetle. It's just like " purple pearl metallic " but with more blue than purple. anyway i've googled every combination i can think of but i can't find any info on who the supplier is / what the ordering code for that paint is - does anyone know how to find that out ?

I suggest you go to your local Auto-glass Center. I buy all my paint there. They might be able to help.
