Steering wheel
Hey guys.. I stopped @ my local shop yesterday with the
question of interest in putting a grant steering wheel on
my bird.. and they said no prob till I said what year the car
was and then they said.. hold on.. the dude comes out looks
at my car.. and says.. "nope we cant do it.. we wont remove the airbag unit, it would make us liable if you tore your face off in an accident. The only way is if they made a sportier aftermarket steering wheel with air bag, and they dont.. sorry."
so I guess Im screwed eh?
the stock steering wheel isnt bad or nothing.. just sucks if I dont have nay options..

P.S. I'm not dissing it.. well I guess I sorta am.. but I didn't mean bad by it, but it just reminds me of a steering wheel that might go in a car with tiny gold spoked rims.
I could be wrong.. I might see a picture of it actually in the car and think.. crap.. that looks pretty kewl.. but the design of it looks similar to a set of wheels that would almost match it that I saw on a Chevy S-10 that was lowered and two mexicans were driving it, and the entire inside of their cab was carpeted with orange **** carpet.

I want to take my airbag off too, but I heard that they can go off just sitting on the shelf. Is this true? I want to still keep the airbag in case I decide to sell the car later, but if the thing deploys it will be useless. Not to mention it could do some serious damage.

That Billit seems like it belongs in a Street Rod rather than a 3rd Gen. I think the GT steering wheels look a lot better in our cars.

Here we go............
Airbags. Air bags are electrically fired, and unless it gets a really big static electric charge, it won't go off on it's own. I wrecked a large number of Honda Accords and Geo Metros when I was with Federal Highway, and for many of our tests, we disarmed the airbags by pulling the wiring harness out of the airbag control module. Some of the crashes were pretty massive hits, and none of the disconected airbags fired. Yours won't fire sitting on a shelf by itself.
Billet (not billit!) steering wheels are cool, but I am not really planning on getting a Billet Specialties unit, even though they have some I really like. Last I heard, the B-S wheels were what they called a 'half wrap' where only the front of the rim is covered with leather, and the back side is bare, polished aluminum. I have a car with a glass roof, and a black leather steering wheel that gets pretty hot. I also have an aluminum T-handle on my Megashifter, and on a hot, sunny afternoon, I jumped in to my car and promply burned a B&M logo in to the palm of my hand. (Remember the bad guy in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark?')
'Sides, the leather T/A wheel I have is a pretty nice piece, and I think it's nice than the Grant models. I'm holding out for something really nifty like a MOMO..

I grabbed a Formula 1 suede steering wheel at a museum and fell in love. Such a firm, fantastic grip. Durable as hell too (These wheels happened to be the door handles to the museum doors).
I just don't want to get one until I get a new interior, because I want everything new at once.

I really like the grant wheel, perhaps I am just biased...
On another note, I would love it if they made one in leather... :hail:

I would have to go with the grant also. I have one and love it. I wish I could just find a center cap for it and that would make it much better looking. But yea gran all the way

I just bought a 2nd gen steering wheel for my camaro on ebay for 40 dollars, it has a Z28 horn button and everything, and believe it or not, its in very near mint condition. it isn't installed yet, but once I do have it installed, I'll get pics, I really like the way it looks, definetly better than the 3rd gen wheels, they're so uneven *gags*
