Best in Class 85-92 at World of Wheels

I took another best in class this year at the World of Wheels in Minneapolis. 2 years in a row. There were over 250 cars at the show this time and I was competing with myself with the Olds 442 (which came in second).

Thanks for the compliments. The shine is created using Meguire's Gold Class polish and Wizard's Mist n Shine detail spray. The louvers were given to my father for his 82 Pace car. The interior has more chances of fading (blue fabric). I still like the look of the louvers, but his car needed it more.

The car currently has 8900 miles on it. This year, it will pass 10k miles since I'm going to SuperFest with it,

Hey Scott, I noticed you didn't have the "CAMARO" banner on the hatch. When I got mine for the '85 I recently sold, it had both decals in the set. Do you just not like the way the decal looks on the back, or could you not find the complete kit? Very nice '87 BTW, it makes me miss my "85 even more.

Oh, hay nice car, wish I could have gone to the show and see it. I was putting in my 4th gen rear end that weekend

I got the decal from an Ebay auction that was the entire decal set for an 82 Indy Pace Car. I do have the rear window decal, I just wasn't sure I wanted it on the car. I might have to put it on. Jawz, I live in BP over by Edinburgh Golf Course. I plan on attending "The Big Show" at the Maple Grove (Minneapolis) Auto Auction. You might see me around. I drive a truck daily and work in Maple Grove so you might see me. Here's my truck.

what class are you going to try for. street or stock/restored? anything more than 3 modifications from stock and you'll be stuck in modified with me.

What do they consider a change from stock? Different tires? New AC Delco battery? World of Wheels told me that my car isn't stock because I replaced the tires and battery. They said my car is now restored! Stock class is as it came from the factory. I argued that in that case, the car would still need to have the original fluids and oil also.If tires, battery and the windshield decal constitute 3 changes, the decal will be peeled off! This car can't compete with a modified class car. I plan on entering stock/restored.

The windshield and hatch decals were a dealer installed option, and I have a promo card that states that fact (for '85 at least), so I don't think they'd consider that a modification...or would they?

again scott, beautiful car without a doubt!

this is the general rule as far as classes for superfest straight from their fliers.

"Camaro Superfest is proud to maintain the highest of standards by giving out the best and most awards for an all Camaro event. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in these classes-"

i'll skip to strictly 3rdgen.

82-84org-unrestored
82-84 stock-restored
85-87 stock-restored
88-92 stock-restored
82-92 street
82-92 modified

as well as they also have a trailered version of the above!

figure top 3 awards for each class plus about 5 more plaques each for participants that came close.

they also have the best paint, engine, interior in the original/restored camaro class and modified camaro class.

now original/unrestored is exactly how it sounds; you "cannot" change anything.....when you get to the show you'll see. some of these cars even have the plastic wrap still on the seats.

stock/restored would be scotts class hopefully. it means that basically his car is stock or restored to stock specs with in modern day reason.....they allow for tire change(but has to be same measurements ex. 245/55/r16), battery could be replaced but would have to be factory gm replacement....etc. you get the idea.

street would mean if you changed anything from stock....ie: rims (even chrome plating stock is a change) ,paint, radio, basically anything from stock appearance inside and out. now you are allowed up to 3 items to change from stock and then you will be moved to modified.

modified is anything and everything under the sun, except tubbing.....if it looks like a 1/4 runner that hits 9's or lower they will put you in a special class.

now even though this is the standard, most judges are flexible. i had asked the judge to keep me in street because modified had 3 people in its class where as street had upwards of 30-40. i didn't want to just win an award for showing up. so i made up some thing about how my car basically is stock or street with the addition of the nos, shifter, and radio(even 3 changes). he didn't realize the seats were 4thgen and since everything else was stock except for a particular coating they allowed it. also it was cloudy the day of judging for me and they didn't notice the paint to be much different from stock.

this year unfortunately i will be stuck in modified........but scott i think you'll be in stock/restored for sure. although they could try to nail you for the banner since they didn't come on 87's but that would be rediculous.

overall superfest is a well judged show i don't think you'll have any worries....it's all about fun anyway.

I got mine two years ago. I found them in the GM high performance parts catalog. The set is listed in the windshield banner section, and it only says something like "Camaro, block letter, silver. W/S & B/L" (windshield and backlight). I wasn't sure if they would be the correct decals, but I took a chance and lucked out. I think they're only available in silver though.

I'll post the P/N when I get home and can look in the catalog.

Does anyone know what that orange car in the background is? I saw a black one like it in a movie video, and i can't seem to find anyone who knows what it is.

Based on the amount of the car that's seen in the picture, I don't know how you can say that you saw one like it in a movie, but oh well. It's a 69 RS/SS 396 in Hugger orange/black paint. Nobody knew what that was? They obviously aren't Camaro freaks! Here is a better pic of it.

All I can say is two things:

First, I am glad I don't have to compete against either of you two. Scott, your car is dazzling but an 87, so I don't have to worry about you at s'fest.

Two, Jeff, you're in the next class so I don't have to worry about you either.

But both your cars are trophy winners and the competition should be good all around. I hope you both do well in your respective classes.

Superfest is a great experience for anyone who's not gone. You meet a great bunch of people with a bunch of beautiful cars. I never knew who kandied was until I saw a post on here with his wheels and then it all clicked.

And Scott, looking forward to seeing you and your car there. Is your dad bringing his car?

He hasn't confirmed yet if he's going. My wife wants to bring her Pace Car down also. If my father goes, I'll have 3 cars registered for the show and a nice small caravan from Minneapolis. Anyone else from these parts going to Superfest that wants to caravan with us?

you know there is a club called tri-state camaro where there are alot of members somewhat closer to you that come down every year.

maybe you might want to caravan with them, they have a club page on yahoo. just look up the name you should find it.

can't wait til superfest, so many camaros such little time. it's always a great time. anyone check out the new chevy magazines this month? one of them had a article with color photos from the cruise to hell michigan! hopefully this year they will do alot more. 400+ camaros all in one spot is quite a bit. any of you thirdgen guys coming out this way be sure to stop by an say hi.

FYI, Tri State Camaro is an internet camaro club that started with its members from the states of WV, OH and PA. Its membership now is spread across the country but its base is still the original three. Scott is familiar with the club as am I, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TriStateCamaroClub/ At some of last years shows, we were able to pull enough members to each show and rival for the club participation award. A club of close to 400 members, we have a group of people committed to promoting the camaro name. And for most of us, the shows are the only way of meeting the other members and seeing their cars.

I just stopped going to car shows because of stupid sh&t like that where you need orginal tires and what not. Cars are meant to be driven on the streets. I hate seeing people only drive them on and off trailers.

that's why there is a street class......car shows should be for fun; and shows like the camaro superfest that promote many group classifications make it fun for everyone; if you want to win a higher class you have to expect to go against the nicer rides............

that's why i love it so much, the chance to show people who do nothing more than stare at their cars all year lond while i'm out there building and enjoying my ride is true satisfaction and it shows them that cars can still be nice even if you drive them.

i don't know how many people put me down for driving my car as much as i do as well as giving me a hard time when i used to ask questions when everything began.........now those same people are coming to me with questions. it makes one feel pretty good to know that other people like what your doing!

anyone remember how many people won the group award last year?

The trend with most of the bigger shows is a separate class for trailered cars...

You talking of the club participation award Jeff? The NEOCC club won it again for the 7th year in a row but the competition from the one Michigan club, the name escapes me, was close. I think we had 28 cars there but I could be wrong. If you need exact numbers, let me know.
