5.7 with Stealth Ram- HP estimate?
Hey everyone,
Going Monday to look at an 88 GTA to possibly buy. Its had some work done to it and I wanted to get a realistic estimate on what horsepower/ torque it would be or should be cranking with its combo.
It has a 50,000 mile 5.7 from an 89 Formula with the following
- connected to 700r4
- Holley Stealth Ram intake
- Comp cams steel roller tip rockers
- Corvette L98 Roller cam
- Corvette LS1 injectors
- 3" exhaust to flowmaster 40 series
Hooker 2460 shorty headers
- MSD coil & wires
Standard bluestreak cap & rotor, new distributor.
I know the power difference with these upgrades shouldnt be very significant from stock. But you guys are the experts so give me a number

Hmm. Corvette cam is same as the fbody L98 basically. Was a difference between early and late model years but not much. Not sure why they would replace it for the same thing
That combo will be anywhere from 240-255 whp give or take a few. It's definately stronger than stock, probably 20-25 hp overall

not against you or anything but I hate when people get a corvette part and automatically think its better (got some corvetter blinker fluid) yes some parts are better over the stock for your motor but some parts are exactly the same like when I see a corvette set of sparkplug wire and corvette spark plugs for sale on craigslist
as for the topic you will be more than stock but best thing to do is a good head and cam package and that intake will do its work alot better then and you can push over 300 but for now roughly 250 260

You soon learn to buy 3rd Gen or truck service parts from Rockauto or similar instead of a Vette Specialist supplier with their extreme markups

The stealth ram needs to breathe, stock heads and stock cam are severely limiting the overall gains of the intake. No one part makes a motor better, its all in proper combination of performance parts. The only real performance parts I see there are headers and intake. And with everything else being stock I would assume its probably on a stock tune as well, which is another big limiting factor.

the one thing that will really wake up the engine is a good set of heads. a great set of heads with a so-so cam will be MUCH better than a set of so-so heads with a great cam. that said.. if you match the cam to the heads and that intake.. you can make great power. doesnt need to be a huge cam, just a well thought out and well spec'd cam.
