LT1 Intake on 1st gen SBC, DIS, Megasquirt
Starting a thread to cover my intake swap. Its a 96 lt1 intake on a pre 86 SBC. Decided not to mess with a distributor and go with DIS with a Megasquirt ECM. I don't have any pics of the work that was done to the intake, but that has been covered in other threads. I did not see alot of threads going the DIS route, except for this one - but I think he decided to go with a distributor after all.

Re: LT1 Intake on 1st gen SBC, DIS, Megasquirt
Well, I was able to mess with it some more today and yesterday. When I ordered this intake elbow from Jegs,

http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...57021/10002/-1
I thought I was going to be able to use my threaded open element IAT. Well, apparently the bung that is in the elbow is meant for a grommet and a push in LT1 style IAT. I ended up buying an LT1 IAT and putting it in there and it was tough to get in there. I wanted to put the threaded one in because I plan to boost this setup in the future, but as hard as it was to put in, I can't imagine it coming out unless there is tons of pressure in there.

I also messed with mocking up how I want the remote thermostat housing. I am picky about trying to avoid having alot of hoses running everywhere and cluttering up the engine bay. Honestly, the idea of a remote thermostat is the biggest drawback for this kind of setup. See below for the pics. I am leaning towards putting it where the battery tray is and routing the heater hoses and hoses to the back of the intake in the fender well or down low and out of sight.

You can drill/tap the IAT hole and install a bushing then your IAT sensor. It would be better 4 boost but your fine until then.

I'm running same issue but it defiantly looks cleaner on Brake booster side but then again it does look that bad on the battery tray side

That was my old thread. Yes, I decided go with a distributor, but I still have the LT1 oil pump drive if you need it, you just need to drill and tap an area to secure it to the block underneath the intake manifold. Let me know if I can be of any assistance...

Ok, messed with the Remote thermostat location some more. I was not really liking the way I had it. I like it the way I have it now. The hoses should be shorter and less complicated. The fittings will be tricky for a few places, but should not be too big of an issue. It will cost more to do it with AN fittings and hoses, but it will look better IMHO.

that looks really clean compared to the other two
are you running the coolant at the end of intake or front

Looks good. I'm using MS as well and the same elbow!
I put mine on the inside to hide it. I simply used a tap and tapped the elbow. It's thick enough to not need a nut on the inside...

This way the wire is almost totally hidden...

Good to see some fellow megasquirters on here! Although mine is pretty simple compared to what you guys have or plan on having!

I know its been a while since anyone posted on this one. But could you elaborate more on how you did the oil pump drive? I've read several threads on other forums as well as the one you posted originally but I still can't decypher the process.

Re: LT1 Intake on 1st gen SBC, DIS, Megasquirt
I used a small "L" shaped bracket and tapped the vertical side of the lifter valley to attach it. The bracket forms a shelf so to speak that the oil pump drive bolts to in much the same way it does on an lt1. The lt1 valley has a cast in shelf that is tapped. The bracket just mimicks that.

Well that makes sense. Other than that it's pretty much a perfect fit? I apologize if I missed something. I read the thread you linked to in your original post but it confused the heck out of me as I've never dug that deep into an lt1. Btw nice work! Lol
