:O wow lol...umm can I ask why? Would the tpi plenum and runners still be a restrictive intake...even with a carb ontop?

How does it run lol?

No idea, I stumbled onto that on ebay many years ago and saved the pics. Its a classic for sure. I'm sure it probably ran ok for everyday driving but probably fell on its face above 4500 or so. Sure does look like ***. I loved it!

Re: Custom made TPI intake (radical design)

Saw pix of this a few years ago, what a wonderful way to do things backwards !!!!
Should this be in the carb, TPI, alternative port efi section or all of them???

Re: Custom made TPI intake (radical design)

I always thought it would be much easier to mount a accel tpi elbow on the front of the tpi but that might not look red-neck enough.

Re: Custom made TPI intake (radical design)

The TPI intake wasn't designed to have fuel flowing through it so I'm sure that engine would run very poorly. Cylinders 2, 4, 5, 7 would not get much fuel.

You would also need a massive cowl hood.

Re: Custom made TPI intake (radical design)

Bet it ran like a champ in the winter. Wonder how much fuel actually puddled up near where the throttle body was when it was cold?

Amazing what some people come up with. I think a few too many beers were drank when that thing was designed and cobbled together

Re: Custom made TPI intake (radical design)

Ran into a situation a few years ago with a TPI setup in a streetrod where the extremely confined area at the front of the engine compartment was too narrow for ANY factory or aftermarket pulley setup to work. All of the options that were compatable with the TPI's aircleaner position were too wide, and all the options that fit the engine compartment interfered with the tpi air cleaner.
We entertained the option of modifying the manifold to a down-draft right in the center. Of course it would have still been EFI so there wouldnt have been the wet flow problems a carb would have in that position.
In the end we didnt do the down draft, but rather fabricated a new accesory drive setup.
When I saw that carb adaptor on the TPI manifold I had an instant flashback though. No beer was involved in this one.

There is a reason why it is on eBay.

Re: Custom made TPI intake (radical design)

Cost may have played a factor in this. But the more likely scenario was that the guy was trouble shooting a driveability issue over a few cold brown pops, but he was heading out the wrong branch on the trouble tree.

Then he remembered the old dusty carb he has out in his tool shed.

If you look closely enough you can see the letters "BBK" near the carb base.
