Kirban FPR and Tall valve covers
FPR went bad over the winter. The pressure is down under 35 and now ive got detonation. Anyway I was looking for a good reliable way to fix it and I thought kirban was the answer. After reading a few posts though I found out that it may interfere with my tall valve covers. Does anybody have first hand experience with this? How tight are we talking here? If its just close I may just try to heat up the valve cover and dent it slightly. Would this solve the so called problem?

I have both and the only some what easily way of tuning the fuel pressure for me was to go the ghetto route and use needle nose pliers to turn the screw, or to grind down an allen key that fits between the valve covers and screw. Either way, it's not the easiest process. Unless you change the pressure every day, it's kind of a set it and forget it till the next time you want to play with it again.

What about finding out what the problem is? The FP doesn't drop on its own. It could be a pump issue, a line restriction, a leaky FPR or a myriad of other things. Even a bad spring, even though I doubt it.just saying.

It seems to be operating correctly just low pressure. Pressure follows along with the vacuum. The fact that it goes up when I tach it makes me think that its not a fuel pump problem or a line problem. I may replace the Filter now that you made me think about it though. Is there a replacement spring for it or can you just add shims? I am the second owner of this unit so im not sure how old it is.

Re: Kirban FPR and Tall valve covers
i switched to the kirban afpr last fall. i switched from the holley afpr after i could no longer get consistant fuel pressure. i have tall center bolt valve covers. ill try to get some pics tomorrow for ya. i also have the regulator facing outward on the drivers side. its a great unit with and alen fitting and a jam nut, it also has a vacuum line connection seprate from the set screw. unit looks well made. it was a bit of a pain to reconfigure from my old unit ( turning it 180deg ). the holley unit looks poor in quality stamped crap, hard to adjust too.
