383 MR Complete...Chip/ECM?!
Hey guys..I just got my 383 stroker with a TPIS Miniram intake dropped into my 1991 Formula. I currently had a TPI 305. Now my question is, is where do i go about getting the tuning/chip/ecm that i need to make my 383 run right?? Should i get the chip/ecm from TPIS for $575 or what should i do here? I have NO clue about tuning or anything!! Please help me out guys, i want this thing to run strong and have the best tune possible!! Thanks a million!!

Go to the DIY computer tuning board on this site
and start reading.
As to TPIS $575 chip, Save your money
Couple of good vendors that will set you up with what
I call a starter chip for your combo. All they need is a complete list of your setup.
Then you can get a good start on eguipment and software
to do it yourself if you want to with the money you saved.

Re: 383 MR Complete...Chip/ECM?!
id rather not mess with any of it myself..to me that seems very pointless considering once its tuned i dont want to have to mess with it ever again. And i have enough to get the chip from tpis right now..is it a smart idea or no?
----------
or i was thinking of just getting a base tune chip from pcmforless.com for like 250 and then taking it in to a dyno shop and have them do the rest of the tuning?? is that a good idea or no?

Even if you don't want to mess with tunning,
PcFormless and dyno would be the way to go.
They are very knowledgable, have a huge data base,
and will work with you.

So thats what you would do..Buy the chip from www.pcmforless.com then take it to a dyno shop and they should be able to do the rest?

Yes, but your still going to have someone with the equipment to be able to make changes to the bin
to dial the tune in after datalogging.
You really need to go to the DIY computer forum
and read the stickies posted and at least get familiar
with the topic.
The car is going to need to be datalogged on the road
or the dyno to tune it.
Does the place your taking it to be dynoed have the
knowledge and equipment to do it??

All datalogging is, is a readout of what the motor needs
as to fueling, spark, air, ect, ect under all conditions for the
best performance.
You then make changes to the bin to achieve that.
If a good well known shop that deals in computer controlled
modifications they should not have a problem.
Thats as simply as I can explain this.
Like to see this thread moved to computer section for
you, as many more knowledgeble people than myself
could better explain this.
