GM parts direct
Ordered from them a few times over the years, but a few more times just over the last couple weeks. Really pleased with the prices and usually get everything within 4-5 working days. I work at a parts store and still order some things from GM parts direct(I just don't tell the guys I work with ). You're better off though if you have GM part numbers though. Shipping is pretty steap for the first item though, but still usually ends up less then going to a local dealer. But if you have a few things to get, get them all at the same time cause shipping additional items are much less, just the first is pretty high.
And I don't know if those guys don't have A/C up there in their building, but all my stuff seems to come in a Degree deodorant box, lol.

There prices may be good but, without a part #, you can't do much!

Re: GM parts direct
I just checked them out, you can search in the catalog by types and find anything that they have.
Had fun:
91-92 wheels = $500 each!
fog light assy = $110 each (cheaper than Hawks)
front park light lens = $40 (cheaper than Hawks)
COuld not find steering wheels

Good luck if you ever recieve anything broken. I ordered a console from them that came cracked. It took two months to resolve it and I had to get the credit card company involved to even get them to respond. Notice they have no phone number on there site. It also takes a over a week to just give you a part number via email.
Great Customer service?? Really??
Personally, the prices may be good but if you have a problem with anything you buy from them you are going to be in for trouble. I learned that the hard way.

Re: GM parts direct
Ive ordered from there and had good luck with them. It took a week or so to get the parts but they were special ordered parts so i understood. But overall prices good compared to dealer. I think at dealer the quote was $160 or something like that and parts came to $121 after shipping from GM parts direct. Very pleased

Re: GM parts direct
I wonder if the parts come from mexico or canada, rather than a us site. And that is why it is so high on shipping

Re: GM parts direct
They have a GM dealer base in their search engine. So the parts could come from anywhere. The participating dealer uses gmpartsdirect's ups account. They don't show you how many on hand because as that number goes down they raise the prices on the parts because they know the end is near and people will pay more as the parts get more rare. Unless it's something they don't mind blowing out like rims because the more rims they sell the more room on the shelves so they are always a winner till they run out of inventory on big objects.
One example is a Buick belt tensioner. A few years back they were about 60 bucks each. A year later they were 80 each, and a year later they were 149 each. 2 years later discontinued.
So they are tapped in and know what moves and what don't. It's a great thing for GM because it's a way to clean out parts and make money on them. Before the internet after a part was marked as discontinued, they boxed it all up and scrapped it. So it's good in a way to get us the parts we need and they can run the inventory down to almost nothing before scrap heap. The parts go on our cars where they belong!
I have access to a discontinued data base for GM parts that I pay for so if you guys have a part number and your looking for a part that don't show up on gmpartsdirect shoot me a PM and I'll see if I can find it. I have a lot of luck getting parts out of Canada because the Canadian dealers don't show up on gmpartsdirect's inventory list.
One example on that is I looked up the steering wheel that came on the Pontiac TTA/GTA. Leather with radio control. I found 5 of them at dealers in the box. So that was the end of that inventory.

Re: GM parts direct
GM Parts Direct, according to my local dealership, sells "White Box" AC Delco parts, which are knock off basically. Don't know the truth to that though.
All I know is there shipping cost is astronomical! Which usually makes them no cheaper than getting things locally or through Rock Auto.

I've found a lot of stuff from them, the stuff is astronomically cheaper than elsewhere for supposedly genuine GM parts.
Example, a new front bumper cover from Hawks is $335, Modern Day has it @ $300, and GM Parts Direct has it for a mere $207...even with the asinine shipping amounts, their stuff still comes out cheaper than most other places, that bumper cover comes in at just under $300 shipped to my door, compared with about $355-$360 via Modern Day.
Do the parts come in genuine GM NOS packaging with the genuine GM part numbers printed on them?

Re: GM parts direct
I've ordered hundreds of parts from gmpartsdirect over the years and it's all been OEM GM parts in the box. It's just like going to the dealer and buying a part. Most dealers don't like them because GMpartsdirect sells at the wholesale prices. The only thing that sucks is after your done with shipping, some items are the same price from the dealer then getting them from gmpartsdirect. I have a dealer account at a local GM dealer so I'm always comparing prices with him and gmpartsdirect.
It's basically a price tier down from what anyone walking in a dealer to the parts counter would pay. I've never got a "white box" from them. Another reason dealers don't like them as they will drop ship from dealers when they need the parts. So they will take from the dealers inventory and pay them back at cost to sell to you. So you can see why the dealers would bad mouth gmpartsdirect. The parts market is huge for these dealers and they are just trying to tap into making sure it's easy anyway to get OEM GM parts. They want to make sure the guy sitting at home in his boxers can get access to all the GM parts he could ever need.

Used them a few times and always cheaper than the local GM dealership.
Would use them again.

At first I was like wow and then as I ordered more the shipping really started to get out of control. I ordered 6 items that would all fit in one box but it was 13.95 for each item? I called and they told me it was handling charges and couldnt change it so I was disappointed with the service. I do believe it is a flaw in their website checkout. Hope they fix it soon.

Great source for parts and their customer service for questions, etc. is very good. Highly recommend. Too bad GM has so few parts available for the Third Gens.

Re: GM parts direct
I used them quite a bit few years back. Normally if I need the part immediately I go to Dealership or Auto Parts Store. If I can handle waiting I get it through the website. Most of the parts I've ever found are much cheaper through gmpartsdirect. I've had to wait as long as 3 weeks before though, so keep that in mind. If you don't need the part immediately though. My '99 Bonneville blew out the oil pressure sending unit the AC Delco one was $88 at the Dealership and only $45 before shipping on the website so just depends if you can wait or not.

Re: GM parts direct
Heres the deal on GMPD. I have a good friend who works there. Its actually a GM Dealer in Winston Salem NC. Flow Chevrolet, think its called Flow Auto Group now as they are into all makes and franchises.
There are maybe 4 people running the GMPD section. There are no walkins, phone orders, etc. Its all web based business. The prices are actual GM cost prices they sell for but the main gravy for them is in the shipping. Last time i asked the minimum shipping cost was 7 or 8 $ for even 1 single spark plug. May seem kinda high but I understand everybody gotta make a buck.
I use to work for a GM dealer also and know every month GM updates prices so a part may be higher, lower, or stay the same month to month.
Of course as big a dealer as they are, the more you buy in bulk, the cheaper prices even they pay.
The parts they sell are actual GM parts, same as your local place. No knock offs, 2nd picks, or the white boxes i heard of earlier. Other dealers say that because they dont like the way GMPD publishes GM cost. I know, i was told the same thing.
Im not here to put GMPD down, or toot their horn either. Just trying to shed some light on how it operates.
As for when you order something or email them. There is 1 person at a computer 9 hours a day, his sole job is answer emails, and look up parts. This is the guy i know.
When u email in a request it may be that day or could be a couple or 3. Just depends on the volume of emails. Like on a weekend when nobody is there, all those emails still pile up and come monday he has 500 or more emails to go thru 1 at a time.
Anyhow once the email is answered and you are given a part number, then they order it which takes a day or 2 to get there. Then it takes another day or 2 to process and ship.
Hope this helps some understand what you are getting into.

Re: GM parts direct
I once printed out the GMPD price on something, then asked my local dealer to match their price. They said that they couldn't because they neither sold nor stocked that many parts. They then asked me to bring back a printout showing how much with shipping. I did, and they said they could match that. But then they tried to add sales tax on top of that, which I pointed out was still more money out of my pocket. The parts manager went to the general manager.
Well, I got my price matched, but they made it stressful.
I guess they were in a bind. They didn't want my giving them bad reports, but they didn't want all their customers trying the same thing.
My dad says they're jumping over dollars to pick up pennies. He told me it's better to make lots of low-profit sales, than a very few high-profit sales. Ten fast pennies versus one slow nickel. But the local guys are obviously too stupid to grasp this.
Aside from the 10 fast pennies, you also gain market share and customer loyalty, and good word-of-mouth advertising. Which will bring more new customers. It has worked well for Wal-Mart.
