Where can I buy GM replacement fenders?

Hello,

I am gradually falling into a bit of a desperate situation. My car is currently in the body shop undergoing some heavy-duty reconstruction. Within the next few months, I need to find a passenger side fender. I really want to get a GM replacement fender, no matter the cost. I've already purchased the other fender, quarter panels, bumpers and ground effects--all NOS--from various sources. However, everywhere I've inquired can no longer get the passenger side fender from GM, as it's discontinued. I've already checked with any local dealers, gmpartsdirect.com, newgmparts.com, hawk's and classic industries to no avail (all tell me they used to order them from GM and it's no longer available). Does anyone know of anywhere else I can find this fender?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
RestoRoc89

I just sent an email to Year One as well, if anyone was going to suggest that. Hopefully I'll have some luck with this one, but I have my doubts.

Well, no luck with Year One either. The sales rep there suggested trying Hemmings' Parts Locater...of course to use that feature on the Hemmings website I have to buy a subscription first...pretty pricey for Canadians considering it's not a magazine I read...anyone with a Hemmings subscription want to check it out for me?

Thanks for the suggestions. F-bodymotorsports likes to advertise having things they don't really have to sell...upon emailing them, they don't have the fenders available, but would be happy to take your money anyhow...Goodmark, unfortunately, doesn't have anything available for the third gen Camaro as far as fenders are concerned. Even if they made a reproduction fender, I'd probably buy it from them, but they don't.

Go to the local wreaking yard and find one in decent shape. its already going to the body shop and they are going to sand/prime it w/ the car so its not gonna cost ya anymore.. if anything it will be cheaper.

I guarantee you that my local wrecking yard won't have a decent fender. Every factory fender I've ever seen in the snow belt is rusty on the uncoated backside. I might consider buying one from a southern car in decent shape. I like the fact that GM replacement parts come e-coated already though. That in itself helps greatly to prevent rusting. Besides, if I've already spent my life savings on original GM panels, I want the last one! I've got a few months until the shop is ready for the fenders, so hopefully I can find one before then.

My car's actually not that bad...but it does have some rust problems (i.e. the hatch panel, the wheel well area of the quarters, etc.) It was my first car, and I figure it's the perfect candidate for a complete rebuild so that I don't hack up a perfectly good car. I've got it stripped down to nothing and am having the floor pans repaired, new GM quarter panels hung, the rear panel replaced, just about everything you can think of in the engine bay smoothed out (i.e. the strut towers, firewall where the heater box and wiper motor were, frame rails, the cowl panel, etc), all exterior features such as door locks, handles and emblems shaved and then the entire thing (inside, outside, underside and engine bay) is being coated in a three stage pearl...Essentially, when I'm done, this car will be entirely brand new...and in far better shape than just about any Iroc you could buy. Sure it'll be expensive, but to me it's worth it. I fully intend for this car to outlast me. I also have been checking Ebay regularly. So far no luck there.

At last, I found my fender! I got it from a private seller in the Classified forums. It seems that's the only way to find body parts anymore.

Those sites say they have the fenders in their catalogs, and you can actually pay for the parts on their websites....but if you call them, they will tell you "The part is now discontinued from supplier". I don't see the point in them even listing the parts at all. You can still buy a driver's side fender, but the passenger side you cannot get.

If you're not fussy about having GM Replacement Parts, however, apparently the offshore reproductions actually can be made to fit quite well. Even better, they're dirt cheap.

Yeah, it's really unfortunate. The reason for the hassle is that GM shut down the production of replacement Camaro parts and simply sold out of passener side fenders first (I guess the passenger side gets damaged more often). Somewhere the original tooling still exists and hopefully a company such as Goodmark will eventually buy it and start making fenders again.

good used is the way to go IMHO, theres always good used body panels out there with all the cars being parted and prjects given up on, constantly,
this way these cars that get wasted arent totally wasted..

thats how i see it anyways and is how im gonna go for my 82 trans am

it needs both fenders and rear quarter panels

will end up buying all of that from someone on classifieds that is wasting a poor clean one, which happens all the time.. unfortunately, but fortunately too

its crazy

good luck
