Summit Screws Me Over
I bought a set of 8 pistons from Summit, I was putting the rings on them and on the very last piston the compression ring fit very tight. So I figured oh well I'll just send it back and get another. After 2 weeks I finally got another piston. It was all scratched up like somebody else had returned it, and I made sure it wasn't my same piston. That piston had the exact same problem and I made sure it wasn't the ring because I put other rings on the piston that fit excellent on my other pistons. So I called up customer service once again last night, and they didn't know what to do. They said next week they'll ask their tech support people. This has put me behind about a month and I think thats pretty ****ing rediculus. What they should have did is said sorry, and overnighted me a piston or shipped a new one the next day, and not another used one that sombody else returned like I just recieved.

When you were on the phone with them and they said they'll ask about it next week, you should have demanded they ask someone now since it took two weeks the replace it the first time.

They didn't have anybody to look at it anything because their tech support was closed for the weekend. I asked them if somebody could at least get another piston off the shelf and put a ring on it for me to make sure it fit right then send me that piston but they would'nt even do that. Normally Summit is good I'm actually quite surprised.

i would probably start again on monday morning. ask to speak with a rep, and explain what happened. see where that gets you.
you might have gotten some bum who didn't want to deal with your problem.
sad to say, but every tech support place has people like that.

I just ordered a set of pistons from them and they shorted me one(thread on this forum about it). Called customer service, told them that they only sent me 7 pistons, and they said they could get me one by Friday. I told them to make it Thursday. They made it for me. Sorry to hear about your ordeal bro.

pistons come in a set of 8, i wouldn't accept 1 replacement. a new set of 8 would be the way to go. when pisotns are made they're weighed and matched by weight and when there are 8 of the same, or within the acceptable spread they box them up and sell them as a set.

Most any piston should be balanced by a machine shop anyway.

Well I got a 3rd piston today and it was bad also! I can't believe it. I took it down to my local machine shop and there were 5 machinists looking at it and they all agreed the top ring groove is bowtied a little bit. I'm just going to return the piston and get my money back and buy from somewhere else. I've probably wasted about $50 on a $36 piston. In case anybody wanted to know the piston was a TRW - L2165F60. My first 7 were good then the 8th, 9th, and 10th were all bad

Remember they dont produce the piston. You make it sound like they sent you 3 bad ones. They are the middleman, they had nothing to do with bad craftsmanship! Thats TRWs problem.

Yeah I know its not their problem but they weren't very willing to send me any more pistons after I got my first replacment. Now that I got everything takin care of they actually sent me an email stating they were contacting federal mogul because they finally decided to look at some of the pistons I sent back in.

I had file-to-fit rings also, i accidentally broke on in half when i came off of the file. I didn't call Summit up, i called Childs & Albert the ring manufacture up and they overnighted me the ring i broke free of charge. Now thats AWESOME SERVICE from C&A
