well the good part is..i own one!!! and its mostly imports that come through the door..i think me and my partner are the only ones with "muscle cars" he has an 86 cobra gt with about 350hp to the rear wheels!!! but thats childs play for what im gonna do..
anyways,,,alot of the shops are scammers, the best thing to do, SHOP AROUND!!! and as for install..well usually the going rate around here is $65 an hour but we dont charge that...were at $45 just cuz we dont have any overhead...(doing installs at my house for now...still looking for a garage) but once again shop around and youll find a reasonable place..it might just take some time!!

I don't like that they only do bolt-ons (in my home town). I can do that myself. Luckily I know a machinist, so when I finally get around to the 'big engine project' I'm all set.
I would rather do the work myself (and it gives me an excuse to buy tools!)

I've stopped taking my car to mechanics, but back when I was younger and dumber, I knew a guy that was a friend of the family, and owned/was head mechanic at a small shop. Always used to cut me a deal on the labour. I knew enough about cars to tell when he was lying, and he never lied to me. I liked that.
Although, while I was talking to one of his other mechanics, the mechanic let it slip that my "friend" was using my car for his personal use, while it was in the shop. It turns out he lives in a cottage quite a ways out of the city, and he used my car for his daily transportation.
I never recorded the mileage when I dropped the car off, as I assumed it never left the lot, except for maybe a test-run.
Needless to say, I never went back.
