I basically have the same mods as you with a fastchip. But when I talked to Ed before he said unless I changed the heads I did not need a custom chip. But this was a couple years ago.

Car: 92 RS - Fully Restored w/Custom Int
Engine: LO3 with some mods
Transmission: T-5
Axle/Gears: 3.42 Richmond
I talked with Ed a few months ago and gave him a list of current and future mods. He pretty much said what was in the previous post.....unless changes involve heads, cam, or injectors you can use his "stock" chips.

I have one on my car and there is a noticeable difference....even more noticeable if you have an automatic. However I don't think its worth the money. Live and learn, I will probably try burning my own chips in the future

Well, I have stock heads and intake, but I have a monster cam, so I was told by a lot of people that I may need a custom chip.

You may want to try Mustgofaster Racing, The guy there name is Dave and he's doing a custom chip for my 87 Trans Am. He's done some of the LT1's on the CamaroZ28.com board and I've heard good results about his work. His web site is

$350.00 for one chip??? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read! Along with my 91 Camaro, I also have an 86 Buick Turbo Regal. I can get custom chips with theft deterent built in for 25 bucks. And these chips have literally hundreds of hours of research done to program them. Hec as far as that goes 350 bones would alomst pay for a chip burner and program to burn your own chips. Never pay over 50$ for a custom chip. At least that is what I have learned in the Turbo Buick world.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but no body is getting a custom burned chip for $25. Having a chip burned for you requires the labor of a talented induvidual, and its not cheap labor. The compnents that it costs to burn a chip yourself costs over $200. I don't know where your mind is at pal, but there is no chance in hell you are going to get a custom burned chip for $25.

The cost may be $350, but the deal includes free re-writes if you are not satisfied on the first try.

Im sorry but it is you the Fbody owner who is in fantasy land. go to www.thrasher.com and see it for yourself Also www.gnttype.org has a link for the site that sells these chips for $25. It is true, In fact I bought mine for $15 at the GSCA nationals in 1998. Call me a liar if you want. You are fools to spend more than $75 on chips especially for 5-10 HP on a TPI engine.

How can Hypertech, ADS, and others sell "generic" chips for GM cars for $125+ and you get a "custom" chip for $25? A Buick is really no different than a f-body when it comes to the basic parameters of burning chips.

I just have a hard time believing that you are really getting a good custom chip for next to nothing...Who's the real fool?

Believe what you want, I have no reason to lie to you guys, what would I gain from it?If you dont believe me, go to practically any turbobuick site and you will find out that thrasher chips are the most popular chip on the market for the turbo buick community. price is 25$ Our chips also have an anti theft built into them plus many other fetures that I doubt are in use with the Fbody chips. Hypertech is a joke and always has been.

Dan, I will try to answer your question since no one else obviously has. I have had many discussions with Ed and his associates through email, and over the phone. You will need a custom chip. A chip burner on this board has looked at one of his chips and has seen he indeed does do an excellent job.

Another option is to have your car dyno tuned where they will adjust your PROM as well. Dynotuning is anywhere from $250-$500. The place doing mine is charging $250. This is the BEST method. What can be better than throwing your car on a dyno and having a chip burned there? How many guys on this board with chip burning software have dynos in their garage? I think you are seeing my point.
