Help with center bolt TFS G1 TW heads, please..
From the subject, you can see I hvae the TW center bolt G1 heads. Well, the damned roller rockers TFS recommended don't work with the center bolt heads. I can't return the rockers, they were special ordered. Has anyone redrilled their heads for a perimeter bolt pattern? Can it be done? This has been the cam swap from Hell!!!
Please!?

Thanx guys,
But I don't think the rockers will clear. The canted angle of the valves bring them awefully close to the center boss. I don't think a thick plate will fit.

Sorry I'm not sure of your combo, I'll assume stock stamped steel valve covers, Crane RR's, 1.5's or 1.6's? Self aligning? My G1 heads did not have enough material in the position required for perimeter bolt holes, so I'm not sure it would work.
My G1 heads instruction sheets listed Crane p/n's for 1.5:1's, but were for use with guideplates. I opted for self alinging (omitted the guideplates) and went with 1.6:1's.
If you're having problems getting the valve covers down between the rockers, getting the valve cover adapters to fit between tehm will be even worse. Grinding would definately be required on those.
Additionally, if your problem is getting the stock stamped steel valve covers down and getting the gussets (internal braces for the holes) to go down between the roller rockers, You WIL HAVE TO GRIND the supports in the valve covers. THis includes grinding away at the bent over lips of the gussets in all places, and grinding flats on each "washer" that is at the bottom of the tube that the center bolts go down through. This will begin to give you the clearance for the valve cover and the gussets to go down over and between each rooler rocker.
Let me know if you have other questions.

Kevin,
The rockers are Comp Cams Pro Magnum RRs. The intake rocker was design specifically for the G1 head. They are 1.52:1 and non-aligning. I wish now that I had gone with the Crane's, but that doesn't help me now. It would apear that the screw to hold down the cover goes thru the trunion of the intake valve. No amount of grinding will help that.

Bob, I replied to your e-mail, but being Friday and you may not have access to home mail during the day, here's what I sent:
"I first used Crane's self aligning (narrow body) 1.6:1's p/n 10758-16.
When I went to my 383, I bought a new set to keep from spending any time cleaning up the old ones (I'm installing them this weekend on my wife's 96 T/A w/Ram Air.
This time, I bought the GM Performance p/n 12370839. They're made by Crane for GM and are just like the "Gold" ones but they're clear anodized. This p/n is for the 3/8" rocker studs, but they have them in 7/16 also (the ones used on the LT4 which were blue).
I went with the GM p/n's because they were ~$15-20 cheaper through places like Scoggins-Dickey or Jim Pace Ponitac, then the Cranes were through Summit or Jegs."
These are both 1.6:1 p/n's but they should be able to get 1.5's if that's what you want.
