Painless wiring harness. R they really painless & worth the $

I have an 88' 305 TPI motor and when i bought the motor from the junkyard a while back the guy included engine wire harness, computer. However he did not include the mass air flow sensor. I recently just bought a MAF and im considering getting the painless wiring harness for my motor. Are their products any good. Im sure some of u have some experiences with them. My stock harness looks like crap so i might need a new one. And lastly if possible do any of u guys know a place where they might sell COMPLETE enging harnesses under $300.00 besides the highly expensive TPIS.
thank u

I think they sell them in Jegs and Summit for under $300. Although my friend described his Painless harness in this way "that painless wiring kit is a pain the a$$" so I'm sure it doesn't sound too easy to work with.

I bought one of those painless TPI harnesses to replace mine and ended up sending it to the ****ter. It was worthless as a factory replacement in my opinion.

I found a used one on the web.

I have used "Easy Wiring" which I think is just a cheaper version, in a '56 (UGH!!) ford truck. I think that for an aplication as basic as that, it was the best you could do. But for the newer cars, I think that they would be even better. The cool thing was that all of the wires are black, but they have writing on them about every foot, so you can trace them easier. I liked it, it looked alot better, and made instalation a snap.

the guys that say the painless wiring is a pain, arnt qualified to do a fuel injection swap in the first place. i used a painless maf tpi harness to put my motor in an oldsmobile and it was a SNAP. at least compared to trying to sort out the stocker?
AND the harness is gm color coded wire. so if a wire is pink stock, then the new one is pink too. and they are labled, and have instructions.

From people who do efi swaps right (i.e. with full function), Painless harnesses are junk.

They, for years grounded the VSS so the car was always at 0mph as far as the ECM was concerned.

Friend who has done a lot of swaps (35+ tpi) whose swaps run perfect when done has fixed other people's swaps by using a GM harness.

A local shoppe who shall remain nameless told my friend (who is just getting into mod'ing his car) that "yeah, they run right, you just gotta pull the SES bulb"

FWIW, 442 guy... I clipped a pigtail off an 83 v6 2bbl Cutlass ECM harness, and a pigtail off a 2.8 or 3.1 v6 'bird dash harness. With this "interim" harness, the cutlass ecm plug will plug right into my stock dash harness, and with 1 or 2 wires moved, the v6 'bird dash plug will plug into the 86 tpi harness, and I'll solder the ones that are the same and have about 3 or 4 leftover. All factory functions will be utilized and functional, including SES, ALDL, VSS, and everything.

Sorting out the stocker vs. the 86 iroc harness was no problem. Then again, I had 86 F Helms wiring diag, and 86 B/G Helms. Couldn't be simpler.

Little off topic, but FWIW, I still wouldn't mess with a Painless harness. Go GM (used), or go Howell, or don't go.
