Alternatives to Optima?
Are there any other batteries similar to Optima batteries (specifically the Optima red top) on the market? Maybe something tht offers better performance and quality for the dollar. I've heard Optima isn't the best, but noone seems to have any alternatives. One thing the battery MUST have is side posts. I don't want to go through the hassle of converting to top post connectors.

I don't know what you've heard, but my Optima red-top is hands-down the best battery I've ever owned or seen used. Sure, it's a tad bit too large for the stock battery tray, but geez man, make it fit! It's worth it! The difference in cranking speed and voltage regularity is amazing. Plus it never builds corrosion anywhere on the battery because it's completely sealed. And having dual top/side terminals is something I don't want to be without ever again.

A while back, someone on one of the sites I go to mentioned another battery that outperformed Optima in pretty much every category and the price was the same or better. Since I can't seem to find it, I'm just going to go with an Optima red top.

I have an OPTIMA red top in my car. I have had this battery since '96. I will not buy another brand of battery. If you are looking for a better fit get the 9022 from OPTIMA. It is a little smaller with more CCA than the original red top.

I got a Champion Batt for $75 and it looks the same and read the label -lo and behold made by Optma just branded as a champ!
I got it at a Advance Auto. I don't know if you got one in your area but check it out.
