I was wondering the same thing since I am in the market for a stronger tranny than my stock T5. After some phone calls to tremec and such they said the TKO and T56 are equally strong. They said go for the cheapest setup and an aftermarket T56 can be had for $1875 from liberty versus fortes $1975 TKO. The guy that worked on them said the T56 was superior in his view and said they are much easier to work on. He said there is a reason the T56 comes factory behind Z06 vettes and Vipers. Fortes torque ratings are way higher than the spec that Tremec gives. They say the TKO is good for 450 ft-lbs not 525. Hope this helps.

Retro fit Borg & Wagner t-56
I have a T-56 on my 1987 Camaro... So far I have to say I love the this piece.. smooth, powerfull, strong, and 6 speed.. WOW.. cannot beat that... Is allot heavier than the T-5... in fact.. I could care the t-5 by myself, but it took 3 person to COMFORTABLY carry the t-56.. way beefier unit... My advice is the t-56

I think if my T-5 goes out, I will dip into my son's college fund again and get a Jericho, or a Liberty. I have always wanted one of those or a Lenco, but the Lenco's I think might get old.

uh oh, poor kid isn't gonna get to go to college cause dad wants a new tranny........sounds like something my dad would have done to me. LOL. I am planning on doing the T56 swap this spring into my bird, now if the 406 or 357 goes infront of it all depends on money. I have changed my mind about 300 times so far about what I want to do, and what I can afford to do. The car is currently on jack stands taking up space in my garage. Damn I need a better paying job. lil jay
