Thirdgen toys, models, etc.
Mods please move this if it's in the wrong place.
I'd like to see the other thirdgen related items anybody may have. I recently picked up this black thirdgen, about twice the size of a regular hot whels car. It's metal with doors that open. No name anywhere. Found it at a flea market. The Yellow Matchbox
bird I've had for a while (not my pic but same one). It appears to be a nod to the #55 that the Mecham race team won the SCCA scampionship with. Widebody, spoiler, number, and even the red/white/blue striping.

I have a few of the Firebirds from Greenlight.
I know there are a few others that I don't have.

Model turned out sweet CKone. Good job!
I did one years ago to try and match a car I used to own. There's companies out there that sell scale accessories for models - air cleaners, carbs, belt buckles, etc...
Here's the one I did. I tried to make the engine look like the 327 I had in it, made the t-top bag, seat belts & even the shoulder trim piece on the side of the seat. Interior was painted the same color as mine. While the paint was wet I sprinkled flocking on it so the carpet & seats look like fabric.

I haven't unpacked the office yet, so my collection is still in boxes, but I have a 1:8 Monogram IROC and bunch of die cast stuff too.

When I posted the photos to this thread the other day I was thinking it's about time to liquidate my collection. Then the next day I was fishing thru the Hotwheels bin at Walmart wondering what I was looking for. A buddy found another HW Camaro at a flea market that I didnt have. I guess I'm stuck with a collection.

A few more... I took the "shrine" down last summer when I was rearranging furniture, so a few boxes are unaccounted for at the moment and I don't have time to go digging, but this box was on top...
I wish Hotwheels would refrain from putting unique variations in 11 packs. They end up taking up so much space, I end up not looking for new variations because I lack the space to store anymore. Somewhere I've got another 11 pack with the Yellow Iroc... And there are a few different blue Irocs...

Has anyone ever come across a pre-built 91-92 Firebird? I know about the kits, but I'd kill to have one that I didn't make, so it .. ya know.. looks good

Re: Thirdgen toys, models, etc.
Not that I've seen. There are lots of 1982 Firebird toys, and there are the BIG 1:18 diecast GTAs, but in general later cars are snubbed by toys and diecasts.
So the solution is simple... Buy several models and practice, then build a 91-92 Firebird model.
I need to do another white 91 Formula model build. The first one was going great until I got to the white part. Molded red plastic bleeds thru white enamel like a melon farmer. Ended up using waterbased paint, but I've never truly been happy with it. Next time I'll try primer to lock the red dye under the paint, or use one of the other versions of that kit that weren't molded in red plastic.

Are there any die cast, hotwheel (metal), or R/C type 91-92 firebird out there? Seems like I only ever see the GTA style cars.

Re: Thirdgen toys, models, etc.
These vintage ERTL ones are cool. I have five of these 1:16 scale Firebirds. There is a Knight Rider version too but haven’t had any luck finding one to buy.
Only other large scale thirdgen related vehicle I have is a Nylint Firestone Firehawk semi car hauler. It came with three 82-84 Birds but one got lost. I forgot I even had this as a kid. When I bought my first house in 2005, my mom brought out a few boxes of old toys and this was in one of them. Pretty cool as I have a 1984 TA.

Re: Thirdgen toys, models, etc.
Hobby Lobby. Download the 40% off coupon from their website and that'd almost be an ok price. I saw that one on the shelf and left it there. AMT kits always struck me as being basic kits, kinda clunky. Guessing that's a reissue of the red AMT kit I posted earlier. I picked the red one up about 10 or 15 years ago, that seems to about be the cycle. Kind of like the red Formula kit changing to black for the 92, and being reissued as the Yellow Firebird later still.
The red Motorworx Camaro kits were a bargain at Walmart. Think I've got several of them in the closet. Was going to sell them in the classifieds but the shipping killed that idea. Now that a basic Camaro kit is $30 on the shelf, maybe they'd be worth considering selling.

I’m old enough to remember when you could buy a model kit of the shelf at your local store for six to eight dollars. My times have changed lol

Re: Thirdgen toys, models, etc.
Cool. The red Camaro with the sunroof and blower is one of the earlier "Blown Camaros". Notice the green Camaro right next to it is the same body with no sunroof or blower, but the decals say "BLOWN CAMARO!". I always wondered what was the deal was with the decal until I came across the early version with the blower. The hardtop version with just the side pipes continued up until at least a couple years ago. You'd think the earlier casting would go away when they released the 85 Iroc design, but they overlapped at least a couple years.

New Hot Wheels casting named as 84 Firebird, But it is clearly an 84 Trans Am. Compared to their older 80's casting (80's Firebird) This casting looks awesome, Check out the T-tops, my favorite feature.

i was doin my usual stroll through facebook marketplace not really lookin for anything in particular and stumbled across this pic of a guy sellin some ammo boxes. clicked on it and noticed the iroc model. decided to try my luck and ask if hed sell it. waited half a day and got a answer. guy was like well its not was i was lookin to sell but i would sell it only if your into models and irocs. told him im into both. he comes back and says well jsut looked at your profile and ill sell it to you for what i paid. me expecting to hear $300+, he comes back with $80 so i said ill pick it up asap. met up with the guy and he was really nice. ended up buying the ammo cases for the hell of it. box is a little beat up but model is perfect and complete.
also pics online do not do these things justice on how big they actually are. man i was surprised when he brought out the box.

Re: Thirdgen toys, models, etc.
Had no idea this existed.
Such a great episode.
Have not heard of this Greenlight. Looks like I missed out on a lot.
Have a few Firebirds in various scales.
The one within easy reach of the computer, a "HOT WHEELS 80's Firebird".
T-tops, big decal that covers the entire hood. Rolls well, rear tires seem larger than front ones. Has no spoiler, looks like the 1982/83 style.
Surprised nobody mentioned the M.A.S.K. Camaro. Thunderhawk? It could fly, had gull-wing doors.

Re: Thirdgen toys, models, etc.
Picked up a Hot Wheels display case recently for all my 1:64 Firebird diecasts. The case was only $50 on Target.com and free shipping. It even came with a pretty cool 55 Gasser real rider car.
My cars looked cool in the case but all the dark colored ones were kind of hard to see so I added some LED strip lights I bought off Amazon. It was a tedious PITA to install but turned out pretty cool. Now I just have to find a place to hang it.
Here’s the items I bought to add the lights:
