Re: cheap longtubes?
i still plan to try these. and if anything detail what all goes into making them work in a thirdgen. just so anyone who does buy them can learn from my mistakes haha. i mean i had their stainless catback on my car for over a year and a half now and its great. fitment and function and the welds were so pretty.

Thanks I am just using a ported 416 casting head so I suspect I will be OK then.

Re: cheap longtubes?
Are these the ones on your car? These are 1.5 primary, the others are 1.75 primary, other than that basically the same I think.

Re: cheap longtubes?
Pretty sure when I checked that site last week they were way cheaper but had an "Out of Stock" banner at the top of the ad. I going to say they were like $300.00 to $400.00ish last time I looked I think.
Update:
Just checked an old email I sent to Speed_Daddy and they were $278.79 last time he had em on eaby, wow, over a 100% increase in price, must be selling well.

Re: cheap longtubes?
I am only running a LG4 305 rebuilt to L69 specs with a better cam and 350 connecting rods so even if it is 1.5 that would be fine for my present engine, wanted the 1.75 primary header in case I decided to drop a 350 into it next winter, then I wouldn't have to buy new headers. But you think they would correct that in their ed, anyway now I need to save another $150.00 for the difference in price and shipping and I will be all set unless these guys decide to double their price too, hahaha, would be just my luck.

Re: cheap longtubes?
OK I know this is slightly off topic but just to outrageous not to post, I sent this ebay seller speed_daddy a message regarding the huge jump in price hoping I could get them to honor the $278.79 price from last weeks ad, here is their reply:
Hello,
Thanks for contacting us.
Our system automatically increases the pricing on our product listing pages when it reaches a crucial low to no-stock situation. I suggest if you do not need it immediately to wait for the price to drop which would mean our inventory stock quantity has been replenished.
Is it just me or is this just absolutely stupid business practice.

thats pretty standard supply and demand honestly. its also how most ebay stores work sadly. honestly in two weeks it should go back to the normal price.

Re: cheap longtubes?
Was thinking about getting those longtubes, only thing holding me back is I have a 5 speed, found some guys that did 5 speed and long tubes, doesn't really work without molesting the drivers side tubes so I found these last night:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/191802758875?...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I think these will work, 304 ss, flange is 3/8 (not sure if it's ss or coated steel) couldn't get supplier to give me gauge of tubes, I am guessing 16 or 18, for the price these don't look too bad, and with 1 3/4 primary to 3" collectors.

Yeah mid lengths can run the drivers side tube round the front of the engine like stock. The chinese longtubes wont fit with a slave cylinder. With a hydraulic throwout they wikk5

Re: cheap longtubes?
Yeah at that price I had to take a chance, only thing missing is the O2 bung but I can tig that myself, will report back on quality and fit once I receive them, fingers crossed they are not junk, and that they fit, the compatibility chart says yes and so does the supplier but if they won't fit I am sure I can recover my money if I have to sell them to some Monte or Caprice guys apparently the fit is more forgiving with those cars. This sellers rep is like 99% with over 9500 sales so think I am covered.

Re: cheap longtubes?
I picked up a set of dougs long tubes a while back for a pretty good price. IMHO i would go that route. I was more than pleased with the build quality. theyre stainless but raw the set I got.
I got my set even cheaper than this with free shipping but i cant seem to find that supplier any longer Jegs has them for 458.99 and free shipping.

That's too much money for mild steel headers, that you have to coat and pray the coating doesn't fall off or watch rot away.

Unbelievable price on that SS longtube setup. I had to get one, especially since it's been confirmed to fit AFR210 heads. Might need a mini-starter though? Looks real close on some pics I've seen on another site.

Like I said I got mine cheaper. well under 400 shipped cheaper. I planned on wrapping them anyways. I also had my reservation about them taking a crap and withering away. atleast once theyre wrapped I can look at pretty header wrap

Re: cheap longtubes?
Sorry to go abit off-topic but I think a new starter selection is pretty important after/or while installing these long tube headers because the exhaust heat needs to be as far as possible from the starter. An indexable starter is a great suggestion and I plan on installing a new mini starter with these headers.
I've seen this one, although it's not fully 'indexable', it's got great torque for higher compression engines and some good looking spec's like roller bearings etc:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HEAVY-DU...pRFRuO&vxp=mtr
I got this too, so I'll be doing a review soon here on the starter and headers with video. Before and after, since I still have the OEM305TPI engine/exhaust and starter. These parts will be transferred to my 383build when it is complete.
Thanks for posting those pics Joe! My Scat balanced/forged bottom end came with the 168 tooth flexplate. It looks like alot of these starters are made to engage both the 153 AND 168 tooth flexplates/flywheels. Do you know how this is possible, without interference issues?

That one will fit if you grind a little on the mounting block. Check out GerrutCamaro's build thread, it's all in there in detail with pics.

Re: cheap longtubes?
Depends on the application. (cubic inches, rpm, etc).
For most people no. Most street cars would use a 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 primary with a 1.60" exhaust valve, some bigger.
http://www.wallaceracing.com/header_length.php
"Generally" speaking, off the shelf 1 3/4" headers work for 350-600hp applications.

I'd probably do a 1 5/8" shorty on that car since your exhaust valve is like 1.40" or so.

Your Primary Tube Length is 43.55
Your Primary Tube Diameter is 1.41 inches
Your Collector Diameter is 2.45 inches Two Collectors
So I guess 1.5's would be fine for that application.. I'd probably still go with a 1 5/8" if going with a shorty though. Look at the tube length it recommends to work with that cam.

Re: cheap longtubes?
Nah the wallace calculator.
Another sizing method is David Vizard's primary diameter CFM chart.
1 1/2 = 130cfm
1 5/8 = 170cfm
1 3/4 = 190cfm
This is why 1 5/8" headers work best for the majority of the street builds using Vortec, ZZ4, etc type heads. This is probably why most header companies (who have numerous engineers on staff) make 1 5/8" headers for Thirdgens.
But if you are running AFR 195, 210, 220 heads, a big cam, etc 1 3/4 or 1 7/8" is where you probably want to be. Which is why again, the OBX headers are a great header for the money.

Re: cheap longtubes?
Thanks for that Joe. I very familiar with Vizard's tech. I also use the PipeMax program for analysis. Which is also why, as you've stated, for the majority of the real street crowd, the 1 5/8" header works well.
Personally, I'm on the cusp of needing bigger pipes. (and a more efficient exhaust system period. One muffler just doesn't cut it).
Thanks again.

So I've had these on the car for a while, and broke the motor in with them. I actually had an issue with the tune, and got one side bright bright cherry read. I was worried that it was going to be junk but no issues, no leaks. They both turned somewhat blueish after a bunch of heat cycles and look cool.
