KeyParts 2" cowl Hood
Got my 2" Cowl Hood from Keyparts in today ordered from Summit Racing. As always shipping was quick but this time I had an issue with UPS Freight. After driving to pick up the hood from UPS I found the box to be torn open and a somewhat visible dent in the cowl. UPS signed a form acknowledging that they saw the dent and that they caused it and I took the hood home to open it up for further inspection.
After opening and finding that there was not only one but two dents I called summit racing and proceeded to explain the situation to them. They told me to take the hood to the nearest professional collision center and get it fixed and then after faxing them the receipt, they would reimburse my charges. I am very happy with Summit Racing here and very disappointed in UPS. After $120 extra fee they still managed to screw it up... Big thumbs down today from me!

Re: KeyParts 2" cowl Hood
Well that sucks.....I went through the same thing on the cowl hood for my truck...The first time the company sent the wrong one...The second time, the one they sent had the top of the box ripped, and the dent was very noticeable...I inspected it before the driver even tried to take it off the truck...I saw the damage, called the company I ordered it from and refused the delivery....They finally sent me a dent free correct hood around 2 weeks later.....If you don't mind me asking, how much was the Camaro hood..?...Guess I could look it up on Summit, but I'm being lazy..LOL...

This one was 389... The goodmark hood was about 100 more and looked almost identical to this

Well summit is reimbursing me the 200 the body shop said they would charge to fix it so I'm sure they will take it up with ups. Just a hassle I didn't really plan on!

That coating that comes on the hood may not protect it from rust. I would ask the shop what can be done.

Yeah I planned on pulling that coating anyway before I go through and do the paint for the car so I am not too worried about the rust. As soon as the work gets done ill be stripping and priming it all to get it ready for the new look.

Re: KeyParts 2" cowl Hood
The black coating is called EDP (electrically deposited primer)
It should NOT be sanded off. Just give it a light scuffing or sanding and prime and paint over it. I work at a bodyshop and just about all the sheet metal comes with EDP on it and all of the manufacturers say not to remove it and just scuff and prime/paint over it.

This is why I am here on thirdgen EXACTLY... I had heard the EDP phrase before but never would have even looked into it. Just kind of assumed it would be best to pull it off which I usually try not to just assume these things. Thank you for the info!

Re: KeyParts 2" cowl Hood
honestly, if it was fiberglass, it probably would have been fine. those thin aftermarket steel hoods dent pretty easily. not saying UPS shouldn't have stepped up. i'm surprised summit is doing anything at all, it should have all been up to UPS to take care of it.

Re: KeyParts 2" cowl Hood
When you do scuff up the EDP, make sure you look closely for like any weird markings, sometimes they spray the EDP then put it striaght in the box! If you do see it, just sand it smooth and if you break through the EDP just put some etch primer where the metal is showing and you will be fine nice hood though!

I have the Goodmark steel 2in. cowl hood that looks just like yours except mine has new paint. When its done right the hood looks amazing. I even managed to design stripes to follow the flow of the hood. I beleave you made a excellent choice.
