I guess you got a point....but i already have a fiberglass hood.....so dipping it in my case would just be the best route for me...

Re: DIY Carbon Fiber Dipping Kit
In the 1960s' Aluminum was the hot material for lightweight body parts.
Just think, if that were the case today, people would be painting their parts silver.
A silver hood on another color car would look silly wouldn't it?

yes it would but as for my car the carbon fiber would not look to bad as i already have a satin black finish on my hood.

Fail to carbon fiber "look"
+1 to real carbon fiber.
I happen to not even like to look of CF body parts. I would paint over them, as their one and only purpose would be strength and weight savings.

I think the OP is asking about a "Camo" dip kit not carbon fiber.
Either way, it's not for me. I like paint!

On a side note, I have seen some of these company's Camo Dips on gun stocks and ATV's. They actually turn out very well.

Re: DIY Carbon Fiber Dipping Kit
I saw this on rifles and animal skulls just last week at a hunting show. I don't know if it's the same brand, but the flyer says it's the same material. They looked great, followed the contours of the gun or skulls, and felt like it was quite durable.
If that's the look you want, I don't see why people are hating on you for it. Some people like the 20" rims - I myself don' t care for it, but that's me. Others like hood scoops (even non-functioning ones like the <gasp> First Gen T/A!) and some don't. Give redwing a break. He wanted info on the product, not everyone's opinions of the idea.
Back to the dip kit. I would bet that it looks far easier to dip something in the video than it is to do it in real life, especially a big hood. You'd need one big "bathtub" to dip it in. Maybe you can use the neighbor's kiddie pool while they're not looking!

IMHO the best way to get a CF look is... carbon skinning

remember..it's what you like. that counts
and to this date. No body makes Aluminum hoods. like todays fiberglass hoods..if they did..you would see guys running them.
there might be 1 or 2 makers...but i dont see them anyplace. making car hoods for sale.
and the Hydrow dipping works.and looks cool
it's right up there with bolting on Vet wheels.to save money on buying one off wheels!

Re: DIY Carbon Fiber Dipping Kit
with the aftermarket making Camaro fenders and metal hoods. I wonder how hard it would be to have them make aluminum fenders and hoods . I mean its just a cost of buying the sheet aluminum and having them put into their presses. Things that make you go hmmm
can you imagine aluminum doors for your Camaro you would drop about 40 pounds off each door

Re: DIY Carbon Fiber Dipping Kit
The new Fords are all aluminum and I think the hood on my 14 ram is aluminum. Ford from what I hear is having a problem with the aluminum bodys tho. An aluminum hood would be interesting tho.
Side note, Ive wrapped plenty of things in carbon fiber... real 4D and 5D carbon fiber and most people can't tell the difference. My favorite is the new 5D stuff. A stock style flat hood would be easy and cost about $100 in materials to wrap it (oer estimating) cowl hoods and bulge hoods would be much harder which is why I haven't done it. I stick to less complicated items that I know will turn out. I love the 5D carbon fiber wrap tho... looks amazing.
I just pulled off my 4.5" glasstek bolt on hood of my bird and put on a stock power bulge hood and The weight of the fiberglass is probably only 5lbs or so lighter than the stock steel hood.

Re: DIY Carbon Fiber Dipping Kit
well my glasstek hood (5" cowl bolt on) is 15lbs lighter then my 3" cowl bolt on. and it was 20lbs lighter then the stock steel hood..
this first hood is made like a tank..thick sturdy
the new hood is lighter then the first..and I have unlimited room for some goodys now
fitment is 100%. could not ask for better! right down to the 0.60 thow gap in the front. all the way across.. when latched..
this is some work to get that..but its what I like..

Re: DIY Carbon Fiber Dipping Kit
My 4.5" glasstek bolt on hood is def not 20lbs lighter than stock hood. Did you add metal to your stock hood? lol. But the glasstek hood quality was top notch.
I just took my glasstek 4.5" cowl off and put a stock power bulge and it wasn't that much lighter. Couldnt drive comfortably on the road with the 4.5"... too much of the view blocked by the cowl. The extra room was nice though lol.
