Dynomax VT muffler 3" single in/out
I wanted to try something different, and came across the Dynomax VT mufflers. The idea of a quiet, drone-free muffler while cruising really appealed to me since I daily drive my GTA.
A light "growl" when starting from a stop, but calm when driving calmly, for lack of a better word. Hitting the 2,000 RPM mark, it starts to change, and 3,000+ it really wakes up and essentially transforms into a straight pipe. Partnered with long-tube headers, this muffler has an AMAZING sound for the L98 with stock heads and cam.
The only downside so far, if you listen carefully, you can hear the valve clattering away. A firmer press of the throttle, and all that annoyance goes away and you forget it...permanently. It definitely has a fun factor of 10. Finding tunnels has become an obsession for me, and I become a little kid for those brief seconds.
Conversations are no longer a shouting match. Music doesn't have to be turned up to the limit (road noise still interferes). You can hear yourself think while cruising 55-65 MPH. With different gearing (I have an auto/3.27 gears), cruising at 70+ should be no problem.
I recommend this muffler to anyone that wants to eliminate drone, increased performance, quiet cruising, and, when the occasional kid in you comes out, loud!
Noise ranges:
Idle - 2000 RPM - Mild mannered, almost modernized silence. Slight rumble near 2000.
2000 - 2500 - Volume raises and begins to tease, still acceptable level
2500 - 2750 - Acceptable but very enjoyable
2750 - 5500 - Loud, then louder. Input Cheshire cat grin here
My setup:
1 5/8" long tube headers
true Y-pipe 2.5" into 3" I-pipe
3" single in/single out Dynomax VT muffler
